Visited July 2013. I think I would have enjoyed this place more if I hadnít heard such glowing reports of its wonderfulness. The location is a little woods just off a not very quiet road. Pleasant enough, but not awe-inspiring. I found the Keller Bier to fairly neutral in taste. I ate an okay schnitzel. My rather limited experience with kellers is that they seem to have and view or are in the woods, or both. I prefer the latter option, and much preferred the ambiance and beer at St Georgen, Buttenheim.

Visited 20/7/2013 after a gentle 25 minutes walk from Eggolsheim station. Excellent venue with the tables set out under the trees in a fairly dense wood. The beer was excellent and extremely good value, and the other drinkers friendly - I had a good chat with an Austrian, Dane and visitor from Munich, who freely shared their knowledge of the local area. A must visit destination, despite there being only one beer for sale.

A roadside field appeared to be the car park, then you walk to a house in the woods and around it on three sides are tables, also in the woods. Itís green and leafy, and although there is occasional traffic on the adjacent road, itís not too intrusive. Friendly service when you go in for your hoppy, lightly bitter Landbier or food. For the kids thereís a sandpit and some old stones to climb on, plus the woods of course!

Fabulous place, like a picnic spot in the forest, except with world class beer, served in the freshest possible way from bayrischer anstich. Visited on a hot, sunny day, in rain it may have beenvalued a bit differently.

Another great keller we have visited on our tour around the lovely franconian area, with my parents. A bit difficult to find, but for sure worth the effort. And even though it was raining we still enjoyed our stay in this lovely keller.. Friendly staff, and the beer was served in great condition..

Nearly a full tree canopy overhead, a small stube serving one of the best kellerbiers around. Typical friendly Franconian family running the show were eager to guide us to the old keller underneath. This is a happy place in the world. Close enough to bike or walk from the great breweries and kellers in Hallerndorf. A certain must-visit while in Franconia.

The setting is very cool here, dense shade underneath big trees, as if deep in the middle of a forest (even though itís right next to the road)...the only downside is the mosquitoes (no swarms or anything, but constant enough to be a distraction/annoyance). Just the gravity-poured unfiltered lager is available here, but who cares when itís as good as it is (4+). The guy serving was polite and even smiled. Absolutely worth a stop.

This is out of the many "kellers" Iíve visited in Franconia the most local and simple. Tables and benches and a little very old "Scout-cabin" in the middle of nowhere. Made me think of Freddie at Camp Crystal Lake. However the Lager is amazing. 3.50 for a Maz (1 Liter) is insane. The quality and value is indescribable. Hoppy and just really fresh! Self served keller, so really no service, but who cares. ?!

Shady beer-garden - in Franconia called "Keller" - on the edge of the village of Schlammersdorf; simple Kellerhaus, simple benches and tables, very friendly service ( done by the brewer, Mr. Witzgall himself) and the best - extremely well hopped and balanced - Landbier in the world !!!! Worth a journey......

There is really nothing to criticise here: this is the way a Bierkeller should be. There is only one beer, the WItzgall Landbier, but not from the bottle, like you get it at the brewery. This version is unfiltered, from the keg, poured under gravity ("bayerischer Anstich"). Itís a very simple place, no frills. But then 3,20Ä a liter for one of the absolute best beers in the country...donít miss it, someday itíll be gone. One point off because it is a bit shady if you like sunshine.
