Decent place and a short little jog from the freeway on my way back to Milwaukee. Carry mostly Wisconsin micros with nothing really new outside of City/La Crosse that I can’t get in Milwaukee. Though, as others have listed below, the mix a six deal can work to your benefit if you play things right.

Stopped in on the way back from Darkness Day. Solid selection and prices for a grocery store. New Glarus stuff was cheaper than what NG sells it for. We walked around the whole grocery store before finding it in the own section. Pretty good for a grocery store.

Very large beer selection in a grocery store. Most beers were in coolers. Small single selection. Prices seemed very reasonable. If you are looking for Wisconsin beers this would be worth the stop. Not much foreign selection.

I stumbled across this place in Sept. 2011 when my wife and I were driving from our Chicago to go fishing in N. Minnesota. She stayed in our car in Woodman’s huge parking lot after asking me to pick up enough beer for a week. When I emerged 30 minutes later, I had bought a 2 week supply. (I didn’t even go into the grocery area). As I entered, I was impressed by all the specials, and good prices on the cheap stuff. Then I discovered the singles section, and made my own six packs with New Glarus and others I can’t find in Chicago. The best beer selection I’ve ever found in a grocery store. I’ll be sure to visit again the next time I’m in Madison.

This place is obviously a grocery store first and foremost. Their is little to no effort put into decoration or service. But that’s fine. Just let me break up a six-pack! And when you want to ask someone about that possibility, I swear that it is impossible to find an employee. MASSIVE area, average selection.

Not being from around here and not knowing Woodman’s I was shocked by how big this place was. Stopped by to get a little breakfast and didn’t end up buying beer, but I did peruse the selection. The liquor is in a separate part of the store. It’s basically a big warehouse-style liquor store. Separate checkouts. Nothing rare here, but you’ll find pretty much everything else. A few singles. Pretty damn cheap, and actually a bit cheaper than the other location. Not much in the way of customer service. Acres and acres of parking. Good place to come to stock up.

I went to the one off of Milwaukee Street. This place was surprisingly stunning. The beer selection is massive, to say the least. The beer forms a U-shape at the back end of the part of the building where they sell alcohol. No credit cards accepted here, so just be aware if you don’t have debit or cash available, you’re fucked. I wish that they had a more extensive single selection, and this is only because I’m traveling. If I were a local, which I would hope to God that I never would be, this would be my store of choice, in Madison. You’re not going to get much help here, but most of us A.) don’t want it, and B.) don’t need it, so who cares, right? There prices are very competitive, and I’m glad to see that they’re busy. All of the Wisconsin locals that you’d expect to find are here. I’m probably going to head back before I leave.

This was easily the biggest beer section that I’ve seen at a Woodman’s to date. Had all the cans of Oskar Blues as well as the most recent New Glarus. Pretty much as good of a selection as you’re likely to find in Wisconsin. And the prices are great.

Woodman’s has a great selection of beer, especially singles, plus they always have a "10% off when you build-your-own six pack" thing. The staff doesn’t seem super knowledgable about beer, but the selection is great and the price is hard to beat (I mean it’s Woodmans, come on!). I highly recommend stopping here at least once if you’re ever in Madison, WI.

This place is drab, packed too tight, crowded with people, and nobody offers to help you, but DAMN they have a lot of beer. If you want a beer in Madison, and they don’t have it here, you probably aren’t going to get it.

I used to come here often while at UW-Madison in the 90’s. Definitely grocery store liquor department ambiance. Paying with cash, check or ATM can be a bit of a pain, especially when on a serious beerrun these days. Selection definitely better than Woodman’s in Appleton but I get the feeling that they want to get the average Joe drunk, rather than tickling the beergeek’s tastebuds.
