Surprisingly not busy for early Friday evening in middle to Mill Ave. Traditional old wood bar outlay, with service to the right comprising large selection of drafts and huge choice of bottles. Enthusiastic staff (and customers !).
this maybe a chain however, this is how you do it. I really dig the ambience here -multiple levels with lots of open wood/rustic look. The franchise owner was even pouring beers for me and the other staff were very friendly as well. Beer selection is very good. I had a great time here the few times i have been.
They always have something new to try on tap and sometimes things I wouldnít expect. The bottle list is very extensive. It is usually a good mix of college students and locals/tourists. They do some events, a few a month it seems. The prices are above average, but I just try to go during happy hour. The knowledge of the bartenders on the beer ranges from almost none to excellent. Overall, much better than I expected from a chain place like this.
Second bar I hit after Ernesto left back for work. If I had to pick one beer (non-brewery) bar in Tempe that I would continuously flock to, this would be it. And I havenít even tried all the spots Tempe has to offer, but this was gloriously impactful on me. I found that their tap selection had been admirable (plenty of Bellís, Deschutes, Hangar 24) and sported some engagingly limited Arizonan brews on the list (Mother Road Brewing out of Flagstaff, in particular). It hadnít gotten too noisy; but then again, it was only 4:30 pm when I arrived. I hadnít ordered a full meal, but they make some killer mac íní cheese I would be happy to have again.
I was surprised by how much I liked this place. Really nice staff, and a very good selection of beers, both high quality and local options. The food here leaves a little bit to be desired, as there arenít a lot of options, but the tap list makes up for it. I had some nice local and barrel-aged options when I dropped by. Good beer spot...
So WoB followed me from when Savino opened the first one on Linebaugh in Tampa (Westchase) all the way the hell to Phoenix. Savino, what did you start here? Iím not a big fan of the way the original, once Savino sold his part of it, turned into a club scene with blaring music (it was almost impossible to hold a conversation). This one in Tempe though was a welcome change to the Westchase craziness. The staff I encounter knew the beer scene and the beer and were very friendly and helpful. Lots of cool stuff on tap and they work with local brewers to create WoB local offerings. Thatís pretty cool. So I hit this place during off hours and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, all the sports that were on and the respectable tap and bottle list. This was a fun visit and it is nice to see how this business model has worked so well for the remaining owners of that first location. Good job. Iíll have to go back.
A bustling bar offering hundereds of beers and almost every style under the sun! I enjoyed a white chocolate wheat beer from Sonoran! While critics may argue it is too commercial it was good fun nevertheless.
I think I could copy daknoleís review verbatim. I love the bottle selections these guys have. I love that each location features not just local stuff but a lot of it and things you donít see everywhere. If only they didnít seem to locate these things near college campuses and where they appeal to the clientele by turning the music up to 11. But, in a lot of ways, their beer selection has become the standard that local places must measure themselves against.
