Iíve stopped in old town three times over the years to go to Monterey Coast and never realized that this was here. Itís a stoneís throw away, if you have a decent arm, but really, itís on the same block. Whatís new these days is that theyíve torn out the parking lot across the street and seem to be building a parking structure. You might not think that a quiet little town would need this but they have some history (the Steinbeck Museum is next door to XL Grindhouse) and they do some car shows that get pretty big.
I didnít even realize that this place served food until I looked at the ratings later. I was there for the beer. Actually two of the ratings look like they never even walked in and the third is blatantly an employee or owner hyping his own place. Oh well, itís still a decent place. There were two people in the building when I showed up, one bartender and one customer (presumably). They were playing chess and listening to the And Justice For All album. Sounds good. I looked through the bottles for a bit (they had a number of the newer Bruery offerings) before going to the bar. They have about two dozen taps, most of which were decent beer but all I wanted was an IPA. I saw Stoneís vanilla smoked porter, Stone imperial stout, Ninkasi Sleighr, Firestone Double Jack and 805, a Lindemans tap and a bunch of others. I asked for a half glass of the Ninkasi but I guess they donít do half glasses, so I decided to leave. One of these days Iíll stop in and check out the Steinbeck museum and have a beer next door, and maybe head down the street to get a bowl of artichoke soup at Monterey Coast. Prices are pretty high here so one beer will probably suffice. Oh, and you can take bottles to go or open them there.

Just a couple doors down from Monterey Coast Brewing. Pretty empty on a Tuesday night. Maybe 18 beers on tap, but not much I really cared to drink. They have a handful of coolers stocked with bottles, but the prices arenít cheap. Service was decent enough. Seemed like kind of a local hangout and it was obvious I didnít belong. Felt like the music would have stopped playing when I walked in had it been in a movie.

Old downtown Salinas. Pretty good bottle list and good tap selection. They really try to get great beers. Food and appetizers are awesome.

Great place, great food and awesome beer selection! 23 brews with many one off taps and/or barrel aged selections. Bottle list is bad ass too! Food here is enormous and over the top. Love the people and the cozy atmosphere. Definitively a place to hang out for a while!! Go here and love it like I do!
