We visited here on Saturday 4th May 2013. We sat in the downstairs front bar which is quite snug, there is a much bigger ’main’ bar upstairs, however this was a nice little bar. They had a special ’Jack in the Green’ beer which was fine. The atmosphere was pleasant, the pub looks quite a historic place, situated on the main shopping street in the very pleasant old town.

Atmospheric pub with is low Tudor style beams and perfectly lit for a very cosy intimate visit any time of year. It is an excellent place for a meal but also for a drink and there is a garden area towards the rear, and an extension into the pedestrian street out front when the weather is good. This is an old world pub through and through but there is also a nautical theme and you’ll see pictures or drawings such as the death of Lord Nelson throughout. Shepherd Neame ales are available and is directly opposite another of this breweries pubs The Anchor.
