74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 14/20 Brigadier (136) Bloomington, Indiana | October 8, 2012 After stopping at the Hop Stop for a couple of singles I swung by upstairs. The selection was pretty robust - five Troeg’s Scratch beers (#71 through #76), six Elysian pumpkin seasonals, another half dozen or more locals, and very few filler taps.
I didn’t really interact with the staff so I don’t know how knowledgeable they are about what is on. However the prices did feel a bit on the steep side so I only had two pints before calling it a night. Other places may not have the same selection but can beat this place on price. Also the atmosphere was a bit sterile though it could have been the time of day.
All that said I might return here if I ever find myself back in State College just to see what is new. Assuming you don’t mind slightly high prices the selection is tough to beat. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | June 26, 2012| Updated August 5, 2012 Wow this placed has sure changed since the last time I was here. They’ve really embraced craft beer! The 57 taps are prominently located on the bar. The vibe was always awesome. Lots of dark wood, red benches, and an open space that leads to the patio. They have mostly local and regional taps button this day they were also doing 7 rogue taps and a Nebraska hop god. I’m glad there are now more places here besides the legendary Zeno’s. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 bobbypaulson (37) Fergus Falls, Minnesota | March 25, 2011| Updated August 5, 2012 I worked in the kitchen here for my college career. Every week we would have a meet the brewers, where different breweries would come and showcase there beer. I was incharge of making the food pairings and it was great because I was able to drink the beer while on the clock to make sure I could pair them accordingly. The beer slection is great, although unfortunitly the wait staff knows less about the beers then they do about the food we serve (which is slim to none). I think the beer selection was great bt a little over priced , so go during happy hours. | 54 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 2/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | February 8, 2011| Updated August 5, 2012 When I went to the ZBar a few times during graduate school, I was generally appalled. The waitstaff knows next to nothing, the service is incredibly slow, the prices are high, the food is terrible and the atmosphere is douchey at best. Considering Zeno’s is down the street, I don’t see much reason to go here. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 russwbeck (1) Tyrone, Pennsylvania | February 5, 2011| Updated August 5, 2012 The Z Bar at the Deli is really where you want to go. They have 57 taps I believe and have a nice stock of bottles as well. When I was there last week they had 3 Dogfish Heads, 3 or 4 Ommegangs, 3 Rogue, Weyerbacher Fireside, a Nugget Nectar firkin along with some other Troegs on tap, bottles of 2009 Mad Elf, Duvel Green, and a lot else. They’ve had Bitches Brew recently, and Hoptimum on the way.
The servers aren’t knowledgeable of the beers, but the guy who runs the place is. Really an up and coming part of the State College craft beer scene. |
