Visited several times over the years. Modern place with an industrial stripped out feel. More kitted out as a restaurant than a pub. Iíve only visited at quiet times and it seemed a bit sterile and lacking in atmosphere. Not really my type of place anyway. The brewkit is on show and looms large. The brewers at each Zero Degrees branch do have some leeway to do their own thing so itís worth a look if youíre in the vicinity. They also have deals on lunch so it can be useful if you want food stop on a Reading pub crawl without interrupting the drinking and a step up from a Spoons nosh. Food is decent. Staff have always been enthusiastic and friendly when Iíve visited - tasters have been offered.

Quite a fancy place and seems to be more of a restaurant than a pub/bar but the beers on offer are ok and itís worth popping in if youíve never been to a Zero Degrees pub before.

You can blame a UK thread about íReading reviewsí for this late entry. This isnít my sort of place, but I shall be objective and not subjective in my comments and scores. The drinking area is large and very plain, wooden floor and lots of windows, the rest of the joint is stainless steel. Great tubes of silver metal or ducts if you like, hang from the ceiling as heaters and a kind of modern art form. It is for the younger set, bright, airy and ultra modern in all aspects. No old men in raincoats and flat caps in here, luckily I had left mine at the hotel. My beers were good and the staff smiled as they poured the stuff out. All beers were brewed on site. There was a leaving party for a young lady on my visit (Feb 2007) and the plates of Pizza and other food being brought to her guests looked fine and gave off an interesting aroma. I felt a little out of place, but the beers and eye candy were both life giving.

A modern brew pub selling only keg beer, most of which are tasty. Some bizarre beers eg. mango beer feature as seasonals among regular beers. But the prize draw for me are the fantastic pizzas.

Newer brewpub a bit outside the citycenter, they have a nice cosy eating area in the front of the pub, and do some very nice pizzaes :-).. Mainly beer from their own brewery, most time in good condtion, but also some times a bit " thin " to my taste.. If you go there, you have to visit the toilet, I think that has the nicest deco of the hole place :-)

Functional, modern, interior. Good selection of their beers, served far too cold, and good service.

Reasonable selection of their own beers. Personal favourite is the Pale Ale, cloudy modern style pale ale. Stout is also pretty decent, but I find the lagers a bit dull. All served far too cold, though!

Clinical clean restaurant. In the corner by the exit (behind the counter, next to the brewery) it was having quite harsh 2-3 day old mashlike sour aromas. Friendly staff, who actually also gave samples of some new beers and also other beers if in doubt what to order. 6 (or 7?) own beers on when visiting. Did not eat.

Big brown leather sofas, low tables, big wide-open spaces, subdued purple mood lighting, industrial-style exposed metal all over the place - on initial appearances itís exactly the sort of bar that a traditional pub lover like myself would abhor. But wait - what are those big shiny vats behind the bar? Hurrah! Itís a brewpub, which means tasting lots of new beers that Iíll never see anywhere else. The barmaid was very friendly and - to our astonishment - once weíd sat down with our chosen beers, she bought over generous free samples of all the other beers that we hadnít actually bought. A shrewd marketing ploy on her part, as it enticed us to stay for longer and buy far more other beers than weíd planned. The night descended into an all-out beer-tasting session, even including those amongst us who didnít normally drink beer! The black lager is the best of their beers, although the mango beer and the wheat beer were also very well received. The pale ale is merely average (and I suspect would lead to dodgy guts if drunk in any quantity). At the other end of the scale, the apple and cinnamon beer was weird and undrinkable for all of our party (apart from Hilary, who professed to love the stuff and guzzled down several), whilst the pilsner was the worst of the lot - completely tasteless, and it quickly went flat. ZeroDegrees surprised us (for such a large and wide-open venue) by being lively and enjoyable, with friendly staff (more free samples arrived later in the evening!). The beers arenít yet that great, but given time Iím sure theyíll improve (and no doubt come out with increasingly bizarre flavours). One of our party had eaten here before and said the food was excellent. My one concern was the (spotlessly clean) toilets - above each urinal was a picture of a woman, one holding a meat cleaver, one holding a tape measure, and so on - it was enought ot give one stage fright!
