100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 3fourths (1082) Boulder, Colorado | December 9, 2011 Can’t put it into words. Perhaps the best beer in Germany at the moment, brewed and served by one of the most humble, friendly and genuine people I’ve ever met in the industry. And the food was legitimately some of the best I’ve ever had in Germany. Barley malt-crusted schnitzel hell yes. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 adnielsen (325) Fort Collins, Colorado | June 30, 2012 Probably the finest beer stop in Bavaria. Very personal service with a nice tour of the old brewery. We all had the schnitzel for dinner which was made with spent grains and it was unbelievable. The beer was out of this fucking world. Un-fucking-believable. You haven’t been on a German beer tour until you’ve come here. Thank you again, Andres! | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Dedollewaitor (274) Odense, Denmark | July 2, 2012 Lovely place. Great food, Even greater beer and kind people. 10 Km from Bamberg. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 Brugmansia (256) Jylland, Denmark | April 29, 2013 Visited several times - and what a great place. The beers are lovely, food is great and staff is superb :-). Placed not far from Bamberg, being in the area it would be a natural choise to visit this place. Traditionel german brauhaus deco, the food is german brauhaus food with a twist, and they do lovely desserts :-). The beers are very nice and served well condtioned.. Great place, hope to be back soon. :-) | 76 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 15/20 bierkoning (229) La Tropica, Netherlands | September 3, 2011 Zoiglstube was closed, but the door was open, and the lady of the house gave us a sample of the kellerbier and a litre swing top bottle to take home. Even showed us the old brewery.
Sadly zoigl only on fridays and the strong bottled beers were not available yet, but no doubt we will visit again. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 downender (227) Bristol, England | July 27, 2012 Visited on 18/07/2012. Reached by walking along the cycle track from the 907 bus terminus in Drosendorf, which took about an hour and was pleasant amongst the wheat fields and orchards, with a view of the Giechburg castle across the valley. I was the first customer of the day a couple of minutes after opening and received a friendly welcome from the owners. Got to sample a couple of great beers (the keller and smoked Marzen) and sit in a pleasant, leafy courtyard. Enjoyed it so much I missed the last (1806) bus back to Bamberg and had to repeat the walk to Drosendorf instead. A great experience all round. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 EithCubes (215) New Jersey | June 11, 2012 Home to some of the best beers brewed in Germany at the moment, if the Zoigl is representative of the process. Definitely a bit rural, but worth a try at timing a visit just right. I need to go back, and next time with he bus instead of a bike. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Bryne (214) Bryne, Norway | May 4, 2012 What a place! Our best Schnitzel during 4 days i Franken and an awesome Zoigl beer. Andreas Ganstaller showed us the museum brewery and we got to try some of the last drops of the Dark smoked Marzen. We also happened to meet by chance Frank Wetzel (Bierregion-Franken) Nice guy. I will return sometime in the near future. Thats for sure! (Visited April 27th 2012) | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 jbrus (138) Delft, Netherlands | November 16, 2011 Needless to say I love this place. The beer selection isn’t very big but excellent. And Andy and Manuela are so friendly, helpful and enthusiastic that it’s just a must to go there when in the neighbourhood. Oh, and make sure you see the museum brewery. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Ernest (123) Boulder, Colorado | November 16, 2011 A magical experience (at least until things got CRAZY busy later in the evening, which their small staff could hardly keep up with). Easily among the best brewers in Germany, Andreas Gänstaller is not only friendly and humble, two of the three beers we tried were 4.5 to 5.0 quality...just jaw-dropping. I didn’t write a review of the regular amber bock, and while it was quite pleasant it didn’t really inspire awe. The zoigl and smoked doppelbock on the other hand were INSANE. Just completely ridiculously amazing. 5.0 for the zoigl and 4.7 for the rauchdoppelbock. Charming small town, charming little pub, and really friendly/kind staff. Only one or two beers are available at any given time (at least when we visited), but the quality more than makes up for that. Food was basic Bavarian-style meat and potatoes (try Höhn for some truly wonderful, more varied types of food). The next time I visit Germany, which will hopefully be soon, I will be spending the bulk of my time drinking here. |
