This is the place where I started tasting weird beers 10 years ago. Very nice brown café Amsterdam style, good selection of bottles, taps are not very special. Mostly students here, lately also a lot of yuppies. Food is nice, it has been worse here (also better, back in the days when they had spare-ribs in Westmalle dubbel-sauce). Prices have gone up spectacularly as in all of Amsterdam, but the taps are overpriced. Nevertheless still a nice place to go for some good beers and a dinner. Snacks are very nice, their home-baked bread is very good.

A lovely bar with about a hundred beers, most from Belgium.

Belgium/Dutch-mix style bar focused on Belgian beers and younger going-out crowd. Kinda small and a very relaxed atmosphere. Liked the music, too. We were (very?) lucky to find a table on Saturday night and it was busy but no overcrowded at all. Staff seemed surprisingly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Selection almost exclusively the more well-known Belgian (and some Dutch) ales. Would have expected more rarities but frankly there was enough to choose from. Liked the offering of Arabier and Oerbier, for example. Also the Orval was presented with the last yeasty bit served in a separate shooter glass - haven’t seen that level of detail before in a bar like this. Prices are reasonable, especially considering how close it is to Amsterdam’s Leidseplein. Recommended!

For someone who is into beer, this might not be the best place in the city to go to for only having some beers, but going out for dinner, this is a nice place. Some cuisine de bier, I tried the lamb with Kwak sauce and it was excellent, and a Kwak to drink with it made an almost magical combination.

This place has an authoritative selection of Belgian beers but little else, and it never really changes. The music is usually too loud, the place is usually way too crowded during usual going-out-to-drink hours and the fact that you have to go all the way to the back through a packed place to get to the toilet is annoying. I do find it amazing that the staff still manage to smile and serve you attentively despite the insane amount of people usually being there.

Plus: This bar serves food to go with the beers. I didn’t have it, but many people around were eating.
Minus: selection is not the best in town, offering about a 120 well-known belgians, not a single surprise. We went on a saturdayevening which was probably a bad choice, lots of youngsters ordering sweet kriekjes and Leffe before gong out probably. This is not the place for serious beerlovers imo, but a semi-trendy place for youngsters offering more than the regular Amsterdam bars. Not a bad thing at all, but Amsterdam has many, many better offerings.

I’ll confess - I don’t like hideously smoky and noisy bars - and this pub drove that home. One hour within, and everything about me reeked of smoke. Spoilt the beer tasting, in fact, which is a shame as it had a pretty interesting beer list. Not a ticker paradise, but if you want a good beer in a particular Belgian style, this place will probably have 3 of them for you to choose from. Food looked pretty good, but a little pricy for our spend all our money on beer backpacker budget. However, the beer snack we had (coarse liver pate and fresh dark bread) was very good value for money and if served with a lettuce leaf and tomato would have been considered a whole ’farmhouse’ style meal in some UK pubs.

I could skip this in the future... ok for someone not into beer, but a bit disapointing for me.

Large but not so original selection. Some beers are served in an awful condition. Rude rude rude service.
