54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20
Located in a quiet backstreet of central Frankfurt. Quite a classic wooden little brewpub. They only serve a couple average house beers, the dunkel being our favorite offering. Food looked quite generous and tasty, but service on that day was so cold and impersonal that we didn’t bother staying for dinner.

Zwoelf Apostel is a fairly standard looking restaurant that happens to brew a couple of beers, something which is a bit of a novelty in Frankfurt. As the weather was sunny I sat outdoors. Service was pretty good actually. They only offer 2 of their own beers - Helles and Dunkles. They aren’t anything particularly special, but there isn’t much brewpub options in this city. I also ate here and had a pretty tasty schnitzel. Not bad.

It is tucked away on a side street in downtown Frankfurt. Nice rustic decor with wood beams and a farmhouse styling. Beer choices generally boil down to “helles” or “dunkel” and large or small. Food was good especially the schweinhaxe which will satiate your inner caveman.

Small place with old wooden interior. Vintage looking brewing equipment with wooden exterior, two housebrews (helles and dunkel) and 3 others on tap, 4 bottles in menu. Food menu is nor extensive but nice. The ambience is great. The menu claims their beer is in line with purity law of 1516. Their brews are not as interesting as the place.

The Zwolf Apostel brew pub / restaurant is no more. New owners selling just
Bitburger on tap! No great loss as I never thought much of their 2 bland beers
anyway! Was a brewery in a Croatian restaurant. Last time I tried their beer was in 2008 but I am unsure when they stopped brewing.

Visited March 2012. Horrible place. I’ve never been to a brewpub that didn’t actually feature their own beers on the menu or by any indication (blackboard, sign, ads on tables) in the bar. It makes you wonder if they still brew on the rather knackered looking kit. To eat, I had an overpriced (€13.50) schnitzel covered in green sauce. The sauce is supposed to be a Frankfurt specialty, but I ended up scraping it off the schnitzel as it tasted so bad. And I don’t consider myself a fussy eater. The Hell was okay and I didn’t bother with the Dunkel. The service was slow and unfriendly, and to top it all off the waiter decided to tip himself with some of my change from a 20. I found it interesting that after spending two weeks in Franconia with most everyone being kind and friendly, I’m in Frankfurt for a few hours and I get this treatment. Hmmm. Anyway, avoid this place like the plague.

The place itself is very nice, but the beers, namely the dunkel and the helles, are not worth tasting. In addition to their own products, they serve some common bulk brews, which aren’t exciting either.

If you go to Frankfurt you have to go here, even if you are only laid over 3-4 hours in the airport. It is a short trip with the U-bahn and an easy walk. I visited on a 3 hour layover on a 39 hours flight back from NZ. Though only two beer on tap, but they are really refreshing sipping in the sun on the sidewalk. Seems like a locals place. The menu looked inviting, but I was full. It also seems like a very traditional place - You can, if you must place the order at the bar, but they seemed to prefer table service, but that was a bit slow for my thirst.

My first stop after returning to Germany. I was there for lunch so service was not a problem.. As far as as a place goes it is quite nice. It is run by a family and they are very nice and have a lot of fun running the place. Your in a very non beer city so this is one of the few brewbups arond. As a stop it is a good one. The food was normal and good but not outstanding. The beers leave something to be desired but their ratings are elsewhere.
