60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 fantti (56) , Finland | June 9, 2013 Visited in may 2011. Not many beers and this is more a restaurant than beer bar, but their lambic was refreshing and place was big. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 LookMomNoHands (46) Copenhagen, Denmark | June 8, 2013 Visited May 2013. Recommended in every guide book covering Brussels and in the city center. What could possibly go wrong? I guess that most of the visitors in the bar where tourists like us. As many previous ratings has described this is a 1920´s Art deco café - all well preserved. Décor is quite an experience - service was busy but still attentive. Beer selection is so-so for Belgium: Alken-Mass beers and a few good trappists. Go here for the atmosphere and the fantastic interior and enjoy a beer. Not a place for the big beer experience. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 77ships (58) Antwerpen, Belgium | June 5, 2013 Decor is incredible – like best ever. Looks totally unchanged from the time of Jacques Brel – it is like walking back into the past. I adore it absolutely. Unfortunately there is little else to this place other than the decor. Service is okay, standard. Pretty crowded. Beers are just the regular pale lagers you can get everywhere plus the Mort Subite beers, 5 or so available. Pure lemonade & not worth the effort. Still if you are in the neighborhood, you need to check out the interior. | 76 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Gerbeer (22) Vancouver, British Columbia | April 26, 2013 Good stop for lunch and a beer. And a bit of history. Beer selection is actually fairly small so good first stop. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 demmbonz (49) Wisconsin | April 10, 2013 Fancy pants with good beer selection. We were one and done. | 56 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Ibrew2or3 (301) Tempe, Arizona | March 19, 2013 Visited here with sebletitje. This long narrow space certainly has an antique feel to it The narrow little tables remind me of the kind I’ve seen in Kolsch pubs in Cologne. The space doesn’t lend itself to noise suppression so at about three quarter full it is pretty darn load. I came here to try one of their brews, there were 4 of their own on tap, and it was decent enough. Nothing too exciting on tap is possible and this isn’t a place to seek out to eat so a return visit may not be needed. All in all it was a fun place to experience. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 sebletitje (241) Enghien, Belgium | March 17, 2013 Had not visited the place in years, but got to see it again with Ibrew2or3.
Place has this early 1900s feel to it. I can see it as a nice and quiet spot taking me back to another time away from the busy Brussels.
Beers are forgettable at best showcasing the best of big mass producer Alken Maes that one can find in just about every nigthshops.
The place is noisy with tourists with a table set up reminding me of the old school cafeteria. Food is typical and uninspiring given the price they ask for just bread and cheese, thus letting me believe most of it is straight out of the supermarket pack and quickly microwaved. Rather sad when one knows the wealth of local delicacies.
Service was ok, place just very busy. About the only positive note is the decor. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Svesse (181) Hässelby, Sweden | January 23, 2013 (Visited July & Oct 2012) Classic beer café at the northern end of the shopping mall Galerie du Roi. The place is quite septacular, with tiled walls, small wooden tables and quite some meters up to the ceiling. Selection is decent, but hardly impressive, but you can find some of the sweetened Mort Subite lambics on tap (if you find that necessary). Best choice would probably be the Mort Subite Oude Gueuze (which is bottled). Service was quite different on my two visits, ranging from slow and quite bad to swift and efficient. Worth a visit for the place itself, and while you’re there you might as well have a beer. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 n00bface (14) Minneapolis, | January 4, 2013 Interesting place. The building is pretty grand for a little cafe. The selection is underwhelming, but coming here for me was more of a novelty visit. Our server was pretty funny, but I still would only come here again if I were passing by and fancied a quick drink. |
