94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 RS2409 (4) , | April 15, 2013 Easily my favorite Liquor store in Manhattan. Amazing selection, very knowledgable staff, and decent prices. It’s also located in a very cool neighborhood. Even though I don’t live in the neighborhood any more, I often travel there for my alcohol purchases.
One downside - you will not find beer here. They only sell wine and liquor. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 theisti (352) Leawood, Kansas | March 19, 2013 As mentioned by Andy, no beer here. However, if you are looking for Sake, Cider, Liquor and especially Wine, this is your spot. A surprising large store, with just an amazing selection of wine and spirits. Prices are high, though they have some rarities which I had never seen before. It was really fun just to wander around this place. Purely from a Sake and Cider perspective, this is a great spot. My rating of 70 reflects my own personal rating system which defines a 70 as "Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time". | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 puzzl (123) New York, New York | February 19, 2013 NO BEER HERE
You cannot sell beer in liquor stores in New York State, but you can sell cider and sake, hence the inclusion here. This place is easily the best liquor store in the city and the best I’ve ever been to anywhere. It is not a megastore like Binny’s or something, but all bottles are carefully chosen by the incredibly knowledgeable staff, and every single bottle in the store has a note written about it. Recommendations abound; it is simply an information overload. They’ve got at least 100 bottles of sake, all refridgerated, and 20+ bottles of cider, many of which I’ve never seen anywhere else. The liquor selection is absurd, and if you like rare scotch, armagnac, absinthe, or mezcal, this is the place to go. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 jredmond (161) Manhattan, New York | November 25, 2012 Finally stopped by AW&S today with Linh after some brunch. Huge store with an overwhelming selection of wines, liquor, sake and a few ciders. Make sure to ask an employee if you are looking for something in particular because the place is just too huge to wrap your head around (atleast on your first visit). Was lucky enough to snag some ice ciders and sakes. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 j12601 (262) Poughkeepsie, New York | December 2, 2010 An absolutely beautiful store with lots of open space, lovely wooden shelves and fixtures, and a definite emphasis on either quality, or expensive things. There’s a nice area of a few fridges that stock an ample amount of sakes (and some sojus and shochu) that is worth a look. In addition there are two bins (encompassing maybe 10-15 at most) ciders and perries from all over. With a backpack fairly full from a visit to New Beer minutes and blocks earlier, I left with just a small cup sake that I still have to upload to the site, and a rather tasty looking Spanish cider. No beer here, but worth a stop for some sakes or ciders, and definitely worth it if someone in your party is into wine and or spirits. Apparently there are regular tastings here as well, but on a weekday at around noon, none while I was there. Still worth a visit. Wish they had ice ciders though. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 JoeMcPhee (465) Toronto, ON, Ontario | July 15, 2010 If it’s sake or cider you’re after this is a great spot. The sake is all kept in chilled cases and there is a very wide selection in a number of styles and price points. The staff really knows their stuff and they host informational classes on sake (as well as other spirits and cocktails). This is the best liquor store in NYC and the prices are remarkably fair. The cider selection isn’t all that large, but they get things here that you won’t find anywhere else including real Asturian sidra and a really tasty French perry that was sublime. A destination for spirit and sake lovers. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 thedm (9) Fort Wayne, | June 20, 2010 Excellent selection of over 100 Sakes mailed in a wonderfully packed packages. No broken bottles. |
