64 Dating back to the late seventeenth century located in an alley way with stained glass window and amazing interior. The interior is a thing of beauty, not a place you will find people outside of tourists in part due to the beers being priced very touristic, 7 euro for Orval, 6.50 euro for St. Bernardus 12 etc. limited choices. Westvleteren for 17 euro. Essential stop for interior still. |
70 Quiet very old place. No need to come here because of beer. Atmosphere is what you are looking for. Thought Tripel Karmeliet is always great... There is another older place A l’Imaige Nostre-Dame next to this one so you can easily visit both at same time. |
80 Like a step back in time. Small with stained glass and everything else made of wood. The selection was small but had some gems, including 2 Westvleterens. Worth a stop if in the area. |

58 Old school place at the center. Pleasant service. Selection is very limited, but westmalle on tap, so not all bad. Prices are touristy. Overall: not a bad place if you want the old atmosphere, but not a beery destination. |
62 Went there because I wanted to try Vieux Temps, since it's listed in Michael Jackson's 500 great beers. The beer was meh, but I was equally disappointed it was not available on tap, only bottled. The bar is old, traditional, there is a cool mysterious poorly lit entrance. Otherwise nothing special. |
74 Cool name, (the good old times, I was told), and was feeling pretty darn good when I arrived. Drank a Westy, and that made me even better spirited. Worth a stop, but aren't they all in Brussels, a great beer town. |
62 Came here on a Monday night quite late on and it wasn't too busy, about 8 or 10 others in the bar. The menu was quite small with nothing but Belgian bottles available (inlcluding Westvleteren 12 for 15€, cheaper than most nearby shops in Brussels). Prices were perhaps a touch higher than other Belgian beer bars but the place was worth a visit for the carved wood decor. An interesting place and somewhere I might pop into again if I'm back at looking for Westvleteren. |
60 An interesting stop when in Brussels just outside the main walls of the Grand Place. Inside you almost feel like you walked into a Templars meeting. There are some standard Trappist ales available in this small, wood-clad place. |
64 Sipping a Trappist ale in this place is almost like being in a church. You enter through a wooden archway, go down an alleyway, then a second alleyway to a small door. The interior has carved wood everywhere, even the barstools are turned wood. Stained glass as well. And don't forget to look at the ceiling in the corner room. Beer list includes all the Trappists, but with the Westvleteren priced at 15 Euro I stuck with Orval for 1/3 that price. Friendly service. Worth a stop. |
