84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 17/20 1more4dessert (3) Upstate, New York | May 20, 2013 Visited in April. Sorry I missed this place on 3 previous convention stops. Although it has apparently been open many years, perhaps there is only a relatively new owner/management team now devoted to US craft, local and rarer European beers. I believe that you would have to travel as far as Dallas or Atlanta to find a place that could even compete with the beer selection on tap and in bottles here. If they could just find a door closing mechanism for the upstairs patio that didnit slam so hard! | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 LilBeerDoctor (215) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | April 18, 2013 This is the bar to go to in New Orleans for the best selection of craft beer in the area. It is open 24 hours a day, which is pretty crazy. There is a downstairs area and a special upstairs section which offers a few different, special beers (but only opens at 5pm I think). Anyway, this place has local options as well as plenty of international offerings, including Cantillon and Drie Fontinen, and other rarities. It was a great stop, and a must-stop for those visiting NOLA. It is away from the French Quarter, but certainly walkable (~30 mins). | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Jow (96) New York | April 11, 2013 This review is for downstairs only as upstairs wasn’t open yet. Its divey looking down here and i came on odd hour and while bartnder and cook were very nice it was hard to get attention and i could have sat there for hours without being approached despitebeing 1 of 3 people there at first. anyways the food was quite good but we’re here for beer which is amazing. great amount of drafts fair prices and amazing bottle list. i could have spent way more here and i ma sure i will over the course of weekend and will update rating if i make it upstairs. also as an equal whiskey snob this was amazing list as well. despite the drunk local woman doing shots at noon and talking crazy to everyone | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 fiveacestx (63) Texas | April 5, 2013 Kind a run down looking place (not that it’s a bad thing) that is a two-story building. Decent food and brews but parking can be a challenge. I got there at 5:00 and had to park three blocks away. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Maltador (3) Paris, France | March 29, 2013 Nice staff and pretty good selection. The place to drink a nice beer in NOLA | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jbruner (63) Tallahassee, Florida | February 12, 2013 It was Mardi Gras, and the bar was open 24 hours a day for the week, so understandably it was a little dirty when I went at 2am, and the upstairs was not open. Otherwise, nice old school pub vibe with lots of wood and nothing too cluttered. Service was a little sub par, but again I would imagine they had all been there for a while at that point. I got more knowledge from the cook and a guy sitting next to me than the bartenders. Selection was pretty awesome, a lot of rare stuff and stuff you can’t get anywhere else, including a pilsener brewed solely for Avenue Pub (unfortunately I did not get to try it). Food was decent, pub grub with a slightly modern feel, but still greasy and really only good if you’re drunk. Beers were a little pricey, but again probably due to the fact that they could only do 16oz plastic cups during Mardi Gras. Great place to find good beer compared to the rest of New Orleans, though. Definitely want to try and head back again. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 PaulUnwin (96) Pinellas Park, Florida | December 18, 2012 Spent two evenings there this weekend, very laid back bar, but the staff are knowledgable, and there’s plenty for everyone, even had a couple of Pappy van Winkle 15 year old Bourbons! | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jeremytoni (139) Swedesboro, New Jersey | November 6, 2012 Nice spot with great selection of beer. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 GODiSSOUTHERN (20) Virginia | August 12, 2012 I loved this place and it will be a regular on any visit to NOLA. Amazing selection of regional beers as well as an eclectic selection of foreign beers. Nice lived in atmosphere with a crowded downstairs bar and a more relaxed upstairs with another bar and relaxing chairs and couches for hanging out. Awesome! | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 NachlamSie (454) Tennessee | July 30, 2012 The pub is away from the French Quarter in an old two story house. The upstairs has funky ambiance and a patio, the downstairs has delicious food and a long bar with a pool table and some seating. Probably the best beer list in New Orleans. They focus on having a rotating selection of quality beers. There were a few breweries represented that I haven’t seen on the east or west coast. Prices are okay. I ate a grilled goat cheese and bacon sandwich with jalapeno coleslaw. Delicious. |
