88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 BierFiend (5) Theisberstegen, Germany | March 10, 2013 Great little place. Little hole in the wall shop, but that made it neat. The have a fantastic selection, especially for its size. The staff was awesome and very helpful. Had really reasonable prices on the Italian and American beers. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 StueyD (10) Heacham, King’s Lynn, England | May 24, 2012 Visited the Victoria Road shop. Good selection of beers and wines, although, as the guy in the shop admitted, it had been hit hard by the beer festival crowd! Knowledgeable and friendly, a bit pricy, but as expected for the specialist stock. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (206) London, England | May 20, 2012| Updated September 17, 2012 Located right on Mill Road, Bacchanalia is quite easy to find. The selection features options from the states, Belgium, and Germany, along with a few local brews. The belgian stuff had a few nice options, and I was all too happy to pick up a few interesting sours. The staff was helpful, prices were reasonable. Worth a stop, though don’t expect to find anything too crazy. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (227) , England | April 2, 2012| Updated September 17, 2012 Drove past this beer shop while looking for our hotel: couldn’t find the hotel so returned to here. While the owner opened up ‘Goggle’ for me my eyes scanned the shelves for likely beers.
Three main collections:
British; mainly local brews.
German; plenty of Octoberfests and rarer brews (to me anyway).
Belgian; mostly well known stuff (I’m a regular Belgium visitor).
Bought three new German bottles and found my hotel, the guy was helpful; his beer selection fine; glad I found him before the hotel!
| 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 weaselkenievil (8) , England | July 19, 2011| Updated September 17, 2012 There was only one guy working there when I went in, which was fine as it was empty. Bloody good bloke. Left me to it until I started conversation and then was happy to talk beer. Gave me his honest opinion and didn’t say everything was brilliant. Steered me away from a few. Good beer selection, some my novice ass had never seen before. Good cask selction too. Would definitely visit again and if you’re in the area I would certainly pop in. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 mym (14) London, England | February 16, 2011| Updated September 17, 2012 One of the best off licences I’ve ever been in. How I wish we had one of these in North London. Knowledgable staff, wide range of stock, and draught ales. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 rosenbergh (334) Helsinki, Finland | January 10, 2011| Updated September 17, 2012 Small beer (and wine) store. Decent selection. It’s located midway between Cambridge Blue and Live & Let Live. OK service. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 20/20 tobydarling (2) , England | September 19, 2010| Updated September 17, 2012 Fantasic off licence. As well as a great range of wines and whiskeys up front, it’s all the beer at the back that’s impressive. Usually 4 draught beers on tap, a draught cider, and an amazing range of bottles from all over, including Mikkeller, Brew Dog, Nogne, Amager, de Molen, Stone, Dogfishhead ... And loads of English bottled beer too. Hugely knowledgeable and helpful staff. And just round the corner from the Live and Let Live. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Kieran_H (4) Cambridge/ Manchester, England | March 18, 2010| Updated September 17, 2012 Excellent beer shop, tucked away a little bit out of town but well worth the walk. The guy in there spent a long time with me explaining about certain beers and helping me make a more informed decision than would otherwise have been possible with my limited knowledge. Got some great beers, visit regularly now to check on the ever changing stock. Just great. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jnelson_22 (10) Heerlen, Netherlands | December 23, 2009| Updated September 17, 2012 This place has the best selection of any shop i’ve been in in the UK. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but always worth the trip. The staff is very knowledgeable about everything on the shelves, and are always happy to help. I don’t know how he does it, but it seems like the guy has drank everything in the shop and has a photographic memory of each individual experience. A good variety of all things Belgian, German and British, and I was happy to see some American stuff to! I was even suprised by seeing them armed with Tactical Nuclear Penguins on my last trip! An excellent little shop, I never walk away unsatisfied. |
