Visited in September 2014. A small and cozy place with friendly service. Their own beers were not available during my visit. The selection was good but not outstanding.

This dark and cozy cafe-turned-pub in the heart of Bergen also doubles as a brewery (but not a brewpub, as the brewery is located in another part of Bergen) so they usually have 4-5 of their own Baran beers on tap. Except not when I was there the last time. They’re in the process of expanding the brewery and having thrown out the old fermentation tank haven’t brewed for a while, causing them to run out of beer this summer. But according to the bartender they expect to brew the first batch on the new equipment in a week or two. Despite the lack of Baran beers they offered half a dozen decent guest beers on tap, including a fairly fresh Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA and Swiss sour ale Trois Dames La Tentation. Baran is also less packed at night than say Henrik, so this would be a good choice if you arrive in Bergen late in the evening. The bar also has a fairly good bottle menu, certainly larger than Henrik’s, including Sam Adams Utopias and a very decent doppelbock from Tucher Bräu. Note that the bar used to be famous for its persian food, but the kitchen is now closed so there’s no warm food to be had. Last visited: 2014-09-05

Koselig pub, helt ok utvalg, god atmosfære. En pub jeg nok kommer til å besøke igjen.

An interesting place with their own beers on tap. Not of superb quality any of them, a tad too gentle as well, but it’s a nice place to sit back and relax. They keep other beers as well, including some imports they do by themself. A place I can go back to.

Decent selection. Their inhouse brews vary in quality, but their brown ale is amazing.

Visited twice during my stay in Bergen, both late Friday/Saturday evening. Lively atmosphere but not too crowded. Three of their own beers on tap and an interesting selection of bottles from Trois Dames, Switzerland. I liked the beers from Baran and had a nice chat with one of the brewers/owners. Visited shortly in October with a failed plan to return after an evening meal. Noticed with pleasure two self made brews on tap and both Ægir and Nøgne Ø on tap. The selection, although numerous, seemed a tad on the weak side, but that impression may change during my next visit. Service was friendly and the atmosphere good.

Besøkte Baran to ganger i sommer.

A small, quite traditional pub located in the central beer destination area of Bergen. My pepperoni pizza delivered from a nearby pizzeria was satisfying and tasted fine with a pint of Magic Rocks Cannonball served from keg. Relaxing atmosphere with Britpop in the background. Has got a decent range of bottled beers and a few interesting ones on tap, however, it is not the second best beer place in Bergen in my book (visited, 18.09.2012).
