88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Larbytown (9) Golden, Colorado | June 6, 2013 A great example of "it’s not quantity but quality that counts". Falling Rock is great, 99 handles. But 8 or so handles can be great also. Lucked into finding this place. Had a great evening hanging out with the locals and drinking the best Quebecan beers. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 rickhall28 (140) Denville, New Jersey | May 2, 2013| Updated May 4, 2013 Just returned from a couple of days in Quebec City and sought out this place based on the RateBeer reviews. After a great walk down Rue St-Jean on a beautiful evening my friends and I entered the Bateau about 6PM on a Wednesday to find most of the bar stools already taken (good sign in my mind). My friends took a table by the window while I checked out the tap list. Very impressive...8 taps and one cask of local Quebec craftbeers. We chose small pours so we could try more of them. After selecting a cascade hop ale for myself and the 3 Musketeers wheat for my friends we settled into the vibe of this cool but funky pirate bar on a second floor. Moments later the owner Sabastian came over and introduced himself. From that conversation we were able to get the full history of the bar as well as recommendations for the evening’s beers. It turns out there was a cask night the previous evening and a very special colaborative (made by two breweries) hoppy IPA was available but going fast...so we all jumped on it. I don’t know the name...but it was fantastic and we surely would have missed it had Sabastian not clued us in. We were also fortunate that a special guest was present...we were told she was the lead on Quebec’s only regular beer show. All in all the evening...the beers...and the bar were were extraordinary. This is not only a must stop while in Quebec City...but I would go so far as to say it is a destination to plan a special trip around. Keep doing what you’re doing Sabastian...this place is a winner! | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 kavencharest (1) , | January 24, 2013| Updated March 6, 2013 Simply put, the best beer place in Quebec city to appreciate craft beers. A good rotation of the best brews available in this province. They also have a good selection of imported beers if you are into Europeans beers. The staff is chill and helpful and the music pretty hardcore. Don’t miss this place.
P.S If you order a budweiser don’t be suprised if the customers stare at you with disdain. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 cacamasta (1) , | January 23, 2013| Updated March 6, 2013 simply the best tap room in quebec city. if you like craft beers from quebec province and imports from belgiums, this place is a must. friendly place, no douches allowed :) | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Lubiere (416) Ottawa, Ontario | January 12, 2013| Updated March 6, 2013 What a cool bar! Super friendly service, 8 taps of Quebec brews, imports, small pirat bar meets Portland hipster, babacool, friendly patrons, a must on St-Jean street. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Retemnav (1) Winston-Salem, North Carolina | October 1, 2012| Updated March 6, 2013 Only found this place on our last night in Quebec City, and really wish we’d found it earlier! Great ambiance (if you’re into college dive bar that happens to have great beer), friendly crowd and GREAT bartender/owner. Sebastian was very helpful and the tap list was very good.
No casks were on the night we were there (they had not been delivered yet), but the other offerings had a great range of styles and were all good (Bromont’s Amiral Nelson was a standout). Prices were very reasonable as well, ranging from $5-6.50 a pint (quite a deal when you pay $9 for a Guinness in the lower quarter).
We ended up closing the bar down and hanging out with some locals until 4 am discussing the seperatist movement. All in all a very memorable night! My only regret is that he was having an IPA event the next night and we had to drive back to Montreal!
This is a can’t miss spot in QC. If you’re looking to make a night of it, I recommend Ciccio’s restaurant, just a couple of blocks away from the bar. And all of it is within easy walking distance of the Ecolbus line to the Upper city. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 MrFecesious (28) British Columbia | September 11, 2012| Updated March 6, 2013 It's extremely tough not to give this place perfect marks. In the 3 nights I stayed in Quebec, I chose to visit this place every night. Each night was a different experience and completely awesome. 8 taps of QC micros that seemingly rotate frequently. This place sees a lot of traffic for its size and unmarked entrance. The patrons and bartender(s) were extremely helpful and friendly with my lack of French. Carrying on great and spirited conversation, everyone made me feel very welcome. The background music of heavy alternative, hardcore punk, and various metal (including speed!) music just topped off my first opinion of the place... Amazing!
And how the feck does this size of place, possibly offer the quantity of bottled beer they have? Never mind the ridiculous calibre.
If you're ever in the area, this is a MUST visit. English or French speaking, you're taken care of... I'll be back, somehow.
Thank you again for the great times, Bateau de Nuit. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Minderbinder (3) Québec, Quebec | September 2, 2012| Updated March 6, 2013 Very nice place. 8 taps, with always enough of them that suits me perfectly. Microbrewies include: Boquébière, Trou du Diable, Dieu du Ciel, Dunham, Charlevoix, etc... Good selection of imported beer, served in proper glassware, by knowlegeable staff. The lair of beer afficionados. By Quebec city standars (unfortunately pretty low), it’s hard to beat. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 PaulUnwin (96) Pinellas Park, Florida | August 20, 2012| Updated March 6, 2013 Love it, walked up on a Friday night from Vieux Port (that’s a nice hill guys) I eventually found the address but couldn’t see where it was, if you look up you’ll see it, there’s a small stair case, which I wasn’t sure if it was the entrance to the bar or a massage parlour!! As I got to the top I walked into a little bar full of charm and character. I asked for a beer and immediately locals at the bar started talking to me, telling me about the single hopped Benelux Pale Ale on cask, delicious, then the owner Sebastien told me he had Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel Barrel Aged, so i took him up on the offer. Went back the following night with some friends and stayed until the early hours of the next morning. This is my idea of a great little local bar, like going back in time, the owner is knowledgeable and enthusiastic, I will definately be back to The Night Boat when I’m back in town, I now have friends there!! |
