78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 GT2 (375) Jurupa Valley, California | June 7, 2013 This was my favorite beer place in KC. Great homely, calm atmosphere. Larger portion food than Foundry. High quality menu. Very small tap list- 6 beers only when I was there but the 6 were carefully chosen and included some hard to find rarities like Perennial Fantastic Voyage. Bottle list here is enormous with similar offerings to Foundry plus others. Probably closer to 100 bottles on their bottle list. Only bizarre thing about this place is that the bottle list is up on the chalkboard in the restaurant making it look like they have one of the most impressive tap lists on earth. So I was a bit upset to see the tap list dwindle from 100 to 6 after clarification from the server. Prices were a bit high even for the area. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 18/20 Moutstainz (6) , | April 9, 2013 Stopped in here for lunch and the food was great. Sat at the bar and had the deviled eggs and the 8 hour corned beef hash. They were both excellent as was the service. The tap beer selection was limited, however what was there was well selected, interesting, and high quality. Was fortunate enough to walk in when they had KBS on (even though I was reluctant to start the day out that way...how could I say no?) I will definitely be back here next time I’m in KC. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 fluffheady (60) Chicago, Illinois | April 9, 2013 Went here and KBS was on draft. There are very few taps, but each tap has something special on it. There is also a pretty special bottle cooler. The decor is well thought out. The food here is insane. This should be your meal stop if you are doing any beer touring. The food isn’t expensive, but the beer prices are a bit high. It was wonderful that they had KBS. It was $13 for a healthy 12 oz pour. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 RobertDale (94) Lansing, Kansas | January 20, 2013 Have visited several times. Always something unique on tap. Prices are on the high side. Bottle selection is very good, always some gems. Food is expensive but very good. Think it is a must stop in this area. Does get very busy in the evening. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 18/20 Strebs (104) St. Louis, Missouri | November 21, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 This is a trendy new place in a touristy area that is incredibly expensive. After looking at the prices, I had one beer and mentioned to the barkeep that the prices are keeping me to one and done. His response was that the prices are high because the rents in Westport are so
high. Come on! This is KC, not NYC, SF, London or Paris. Someone unaccustomed to craft or imported beers would get the wrong impression.
I recently returned to KC and gave the Beer Kitchen another try, and I came back two more times. The food was inventive and delicious if not on the expensive side. The draft prices are still on the high side, but within reason...the bottles are still outrageously expensive. Nonetheless, I upped my rating accordingly. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 16/20 JoeinEscazú (268) San Jose, Costa Rica | August 27, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 There is something that bugs me about three beery places on the same corner all having the same ownership, but in the end I can’t argue with the results. Fairly small place that can get crowded and noisy, which is all part of the fun if you get a table. Beer list is pricey but loaded with surprises. Food is basically expensive and pretentiously described pub grub, but very tasty for all that. Excellent fries. Friendly and quick service. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 ads135 (94) Lawrence, Kansas | July 18, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 Very nice beer bar in Westport. Great food and beer selection. The one big negative aspect being the cost of the premium bottles. Many are unreasonay expensive with no pricing info on their big board. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | June 30, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 Small place with a small but shockingly goodberr selection. BFM Saint Bon Chien on tap? Poperinge Hommel bier? Holy cow! | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 adnielsen (325) Fort Collins, Colorado | March 26, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 Some fun beers on the fairly small tap list, though they do have a ton of bottles. Prices are a bit high and this place is full of yuppies. I would recommend a stop here if you’re already in Westport. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 jcnielsen (143) Kansas City, Missouri | March 26, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 Relatively small tap list, but a big bottle list. A lot of good bottled beers available, but it can be a bit pricey to drink here. My burger was pretty tasty. Overall, a nice addition to the beer scene in Kansas City, but if you don’t watch out, you could drop some serious money here. |
