74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Ron (24) Rochester, New York | April 13, 2013 Interesting beer sampler tray. Since I was driving I had to limit myself just to that beer wise. Food was good. I figured out which bathroom to use right away. (the women were confused) | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 jb (31) Rochester, New York | April 11, 2013 Our first place we stopped to drink in after hopping off the plane, scoped by Ron, and he did a nice job finding out about it, and getting us here. Due to a mixup, we beat him by 20 minutes and used the time wisely. Very nice selection, good service, very laid back in a western way. Good food too and decent prices. Would definitely revisit. | 64 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 Gription79 (26) Bountiful, Utah | February 12, 2013 It is like these guys are embarrassed of their beers. The place is more casino then brewpub. They have standard fair food, the beer selection is theirs, however they have a lot of brews on draft. Now for the sad part, there is smoking inside as well as slot machines chiming away. Impossible to truly enjoy one of the great hoppy beers that they craft in this location. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Wittales (30) Las Vegas, Nevada | January 10, 2013 If you’re a Packer fan this is the place. Selection is good for local brewery with styles for anyone and some Marcos, Languitus Sucks was on tap, some great micros also. Great guys working there and left with a free growler on Dirty Dog IPA.try this place in Vegas. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 unclemike (45) Ft. Riley, Kansas | September 15, 2011 Finally made it to Vegas and wife found this place had a great time. $5 for a sampler not bad. Bought a growler to bring home but drank it in hotel. had a blast will definately visit again when in vegas. Any place open 24/7 is a bonus | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 Holy (24) , Germany | February 12, 2011 Stopped by while passing through Vegas. Nice sports bar! Look for Kim - great service. Nice selection of beers on tap and bottles - one of the better selections I’ve seen in a sports bar. Very nice! | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 13/20 BelgianBeerGal (58) Dayton Area, Ohio | January 18, 2010 Quick rating for folks visiting. If you want to try Big Dog’s beers, this is the best location. Realize the smoke can get pretty thick in here though. Good deal to ask about the sampler and you can pretty much try everything. Plenty of TVs and video poker so the ambiance leaves a bit to be desired. Solid beers, nothing amazing typically. You can easily combine this with a trip to Tenaya Brewing by cab or car. KP includes bus directions in his rating. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (311) Los Angeles, California | January 10, 2010 Decent brewery about 15 or 20 minutes north of the southern part of the strip. They do have a lot of parking if you are driving. Service was a little slow at first, but very friendly once it happened. They had a bunch of their beers and a few macro taps, and also Pizza Port Poormans IPA (odd to see). Lots of video poker machines at the bar and big screen TV’s. Most patrons seemed more interested in those forms of entertainment than the beer. Oh yeah, I think I might have been the ONLY person in that bar who wasn’t smoking. It really, really made it hard to get any aroma from the beers. Could literally feel the smoke going down my lungs, and could probably get a buzz if I took a big enough breath. It was like hot boxing. House beers were pretty decent. You can get a sampler of all of them (9 at the time) for $5 (I think the server was willing to pour additional samplers for free too). They have a beer engine (cask), but do not currently have any firkins to use it. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 Cletus (218) Connecticut | April 17, 2009 A large place with a good selection of beers. Service was good. They offer growlers and they also have video poker. Smoking is allowed and can get out of hand. Try to catch this place during the day when it’s less crowded. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (567) Columbus, Ohio | October 10, 2008 (Visited 04/2008): Big Dog’s is located out on kind of a lonely stretch of highway on Rancho Dr not too far from I-95. They have a good-sized private lot. It is easy to see what with the big horse.
The inside is dark with the bar immediately inside the doors, with restaurant seating past it. The brewing equipment can be seen through glass on the left side of the establishment. They have an interesting flow chart of all of their beers posted in there as well. The overall theme of the brewpub is a sports bar/lodge, and someone is definitely a Packers fan. Smokers and bartop electronic gambling took away from the atmosphere though.
Big Dog carries 8 of their draughts plus a couple of Bud products, as well as a guest tap (Chicago Brewing, with whom I think they share an affiliation). They offer a sampler of the available beers. The beers are in the spectrum of Light Lager, Kolsch, Amber, Pale, Stout etc with nothing really standing out. The beers are all average for the most part.
Service was decent on a late weekday afternoon. The bartender was busy assisting people who were pouring money into video poker but still managed to explain the beers to me.
I did not try any food on this visit.
Overall I would probably not go out of my way to come here again due to the location and quality of the beers. Still, it might be a worthwhile jaunt to someone looking to get away from the Strip for awhile. |
