Neat place. On Hollywood blvd so it’s kind of a dodgy area. And walking in with dim lights the place might seem a bit dodgy itself. Beer menu and food quality won me over. 24 taps of craft beer at decent prices, a great menu (including imported cheeses!), friendly staff. Really great location next to Fonda Theatre. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 GT2 (345) Riverslime, California | July 24, 2012 Probably the original craft beer bar in downtown Hollywood just a few blocks from the Chinese Theater. Interior is dark, full of Belgian beer parafernalia. Only a few tables and a medium sized bar. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Chatty and good sense of humor. The tap list is on a projection screen and changes on the fly. Good bottle list with stuff like FW11-FW15, Parabola, and more. FW12 was $70. I passed on that, but after trying one the next day, it could be worth that with a big group. Didn’t have the normal menu; they did a special brunch for the RBSG group. Smoked salmon, bagels, salad, scrambled eggs, sausages. Yum. Very cool- reminds me of a classic craft beer bar. Speedway on tap, Pliny, Blind Pig, Drie Fonteinen Beersel Lager, local brews, a ton more that was very impressive. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 daknole (300) Scottsdale, Arizona | July 24, 2012 Is the fact that Jer opened a Dirty Horse here a reason to up my rating? Well it’s a cool place to have a beer. Lots of taps and a stellar bottle list. Nice people too. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | July 23, 2012 Has the feel of an old-time city boozer. Very solid tap list, not huge but top stuff only. Looked like a ton of good bottles as well. Great breakfast buffet for us with lovely sausages and the hugest bagels I’ve ever encountered. I really love the projection tap lists. Good place. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 VsXsV (32) Linköping, Sweden | July 10, 2012 Really enjoyed this place. Great selection of both bottles and taps. Some rare stuff. Really nice and knowledgable staff and good food. Burgers at $8 dollars at happy hour. Good music and not too high volume. Nice prices. One of the better places I’ve been to. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 OldGrowth (138) North Carolina | April 27, 2012 Nice place, high ceilings, 12 or so seat bar. 16 or so various size tables. I’m sure there’s a name for the look but I don’t know it. Solid food, house made sausage. Standard pricing for area. pretty cool. A acoustics are loud. Glad to get here though. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (464) Toronto, Ontario | January 17, 2012 The best beer bar I have been to in LA. You come in, you feel already at home. Good parking next door (late enough it was free). About 95% guys and all efficiently served by Bix. Twenty five taps up electronically on a board, with lots of interesting choices. Great bottle selection too, but Black Tuesday at $90 was something I wanted but not at that price. Some other really rare ones, though prices were steep for those as well. Music was decent and toned down, so you can talk. with some TVs on. they are trying to get their sublease settled to stay in the current location. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 18/20 davidflores99 (12) Long Beach, California | January 4, 2012 been here a few times, i love their beer selection, and food was pretty good! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 MattH (41) California | December 17, 2011 Nice unique tap selection that you can view anytime on their website. I’ve been wanting to go here for quite some time and I was staying overnight in Hollywood so I decided to head down. We arrived at 6:30 and by 7 the place was packed. We had dinner, and the food was good. They have a nice selection of burgers, sandwiches, sausages, and also a few speciality dishes. The prices are reasonable. Being a Friday night, the place was crowded, and I feel if they had a few more servers the service would have been better. I have to say though that a couple of the employees were extremely hard working and friendly. |
