Only visited briefly, but liked what I saw. Small, cozy place, quite busy even in the afternoon. Good tap list and a fair selection of bottles. Friendly staff.

Usually Scottish beers served via founts to a very average quality. Nice bar but poor beer.

Varied selection of cask beer, all reasonably priced. Has occasional beer festivals where you are likely to see more unusual beers. Friendly staff. Have had pies here before but not entirely sure if they still do food. My only complaint is that most of the time itís packed in here. Also a big selection of whisky.

Visited on Saturday late evening. It was very loud and crowded, including some old farts and witches. Card reader didnít work so needed to go out to pick up cash and we got our beers 10 minutes before midnight. Then we were thrown out 10 minutes after midnight due to closing. Some great local brewers beer on tap, but not the best ales. Didnít check the bottle selection. Staff was informative but not too friendly, they were probaly fed up of drunk turists and wanted to go home, I understand that. Probably worth a visit on weekdays early afternoon.

Even though the beer selection takes second precedence to the whisky list, I was always able to find something interesting and top notch over the course of several visits. The only place that would be a more comfortable venue to enjoy a drink or two would be my own living room. The Bow Bar is a treasure. Highly recommended.

Nice pub, traditional style. Guest beers are mostly cask but in good condition. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Always something interesting on worth drinking and a good selection of whisky for those out-of-town folks.

This is one of Edinburghs finest bars, Can get very busy, and has the narrowest tables i have ever seen. The Beer selection is Really good and the Quality Excelent. May not be as trendy as any of the grassmarket pubs but youíll be hard pushed to find a decent beer in the grassmarket. Id say a must if your in the area. This is my TOP equal choice of Edinburgh bars (along with Cloisters)

Friday 24th Oct 2014: Packed, just enough room to stand at the far end of this thin but fairly long pub. Came here years ago and it was the same: standing room only. Love the thin tables and the beer selection. Friendly place with both tourists and locals vying for a position or seating. Both my cask beers were in good order and the staff both keen and helpful. Mini tourist trap but as mentioned earlier locals frequent the bar as well. Edinburgh is not a cheap place to drink in, so this wasnít cheap either to a Shropshire beer hunter.

Nice selection both on tap and in bottle, despite their main focus being whisky and not beer. Nice atmosphere but terribly small!
