Big but poor selection of mainly commercial Belgian brews. Loads of InBev and at high prices too. They suggested us some specials by Barbier and Phoenix (Fenix?) but they were not really that special. No sour ales, hardly any IPA’s, no stouts, no farmhouse ales. Supposed to be a beer bar/restaurant, but waiters didn’t have any suggestions when it comes to pairing. The interior should be protected as a hostorical monument though. Great ambiance. Although the regulars at the bar were very loud and drunk as early as 8pm, when we were trying to have dinner.

Cozy, rather large brown café in the centre. Lots of wood, nice burnt down candles on the tables and quiet music in the background. Decent bottle and tap selection, although a bit too focused on classic Belgian and Dutch stuff. There are some exemptions from the US or from a few micros though. Prices are decent, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Some snacks are availabe as well. Decent place to have a good beer in a cozy atmosphere.

Went in here for a beer when I was in the area. Looks nice, they had a lot of standard beers on tap and bottle, but plenty of choice. Prices were OK. Pretty standard bar really, but when you’re stuck in the area it’s OK enough. Only big downside is when I was there they played like four Eric Clapton songs in a row.....

Great atmosphere in this old dark cafe, very cozy and ’warm’. My kind of place. Selection was mostly Belgian classics and a couple of Dutch ones. They have an okay house ale as well, brewed by Scheldebrouwerij. The stylish beer menu promised a selection of aged beers in the cellar, but when I asked they did not have any, a bit of a disappointment for me. Prices were a little on the steep side, service was satisfactory.

Cosy place in the centre of Middelburg. Decent selection and prices. Good for one night.

We visited here Tuesday and Wednesday 1st & 2nd October. A very decent cafe in Middelburg a town seemingly blessed with a fair amount of bars but few that would pass muster for the beer enthusiast this however bucked that trend. The choice of beers is pretty large and whilst it tends to lean more towards Belgian beers there were a number of Dutch beers including a house beer brewed by Scheldebrouwerij. We visited twice I had an Emelisse Wit on my first visit Liz had Orval, on the Wednesday I had the aforementioned house beer Loz had a dark beer from the same brewery. This place is easy to find from the Markt if you were looking at the large church ahead of you, you would head to the left and walk down this route in less than a couple of minutes you’ll find this bar on the corner at Vlasmarkt. The bar/serving area is immediately ahead to the right with a large board above to the right displaying what was available. We sat outside on both occasions as the weather was very pleasant but we both ventured inside and it is a nice place, wooden floors, a few beery related posters, with a couple of rooms leading off of the main bar. Service was very good really liked this place.

OK, take this from a regular! :) Decent beer list, although it focuses heavily on standard Belgian classics. No ’new Belgians’ (Struise, Rulles, Senne, Ranke), only one decent gueuze (Boon) and about 30% of their list seems to be permanently out of stock. Prices went up recently; you know pay an impressive € 7,20 for a Rochefort 10... Apart from all that complaining: the best beer bar in the whole southwest of the Netherlands, great service (team Mik & Kim!) great atmosphere, great interior and good food!

Located in the old city centre of Middelburg. Worn out interior with a lovely old bar. Gives you the idea you really are in a living room. Possibility to play some games like chess. Decent selection of beers.

Had a tasting session in the pub, with Emelisse beers. Bar is smoky and I hate that. Impeccable service, good beers and a well assorted small shop at the back. Recommended.

A cozy pub/restaurant/beer shop, only 200m from the Markt at Middelburg. The few taps are gone through quickly, but there is a well-planned - although smallish - bottle selection (some of which were not available, though). The bottle shop carries mostly local beers, with a few bigger Belgian breweries. Has friendly service and quite good food. Had to flee from the smoke at the terrace, but inside there was plenty of fresh air to breathe, thanks to the new local smoking laws. Probably the nicest beer place you can be in Middelburg, but don’t bother to come here just for this. Middelburg and Zeeland in general are worth a visit, though.
