70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | December 16, 2012 This place is halfway between the town centre and Richtar Jakub, so we thought we’d stop past for a couple of beers and food. Inside its large, light and modern. They had only 2 house beers, but thankfully both were pretty tasty. The food is a contemporary take on Slovak cuisine. Staff spoke good English (also ask for the English menu). Well worth going for food and a couple of beers. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 heavy (61) Split, Croatia | October 21, 2012 A nice place to stop for a lunch while hunting beers around the city. Of course, only two taps, but food is great, at least my zander stew (yeah, jokes on me how a Dalmatian comes to the continent to eat fish again) and other dishes on our table. Might be a touch more expensive than average like someone noticed but still very cheap for European standards. A cool place and very complaisant service, admittedly thanks to Cuso. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 steamfreak (54) , England | October 11, 2012 Bit of a hall of a olace. Quite modern I think. Seems to be the choice of families on the Sunday morning we were there. We had svetle and tmavy, both satisfactory. Trolley bus 205 passes the door but it’s only 10 minutes walk of the centre but at the far end of the road. | 58 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 11/20 turbothy (24) Bonn, Germany | October 4, 2012 We came here at lunchtime on a Monday in September, and the place was pretty packed with locals. Service was somewhat slow but friendly and sufficiently English-speaking. The selection is small, but the home brewed tmave is okay and the food is decently made, cheap and robust. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 12/20 Rune (319) Tromsř, Norway | August 24, 2012 Far from a large range of beers, only four on taps, two of their own and two from Erdinger. No bottled beers were listed in the menu. However, their own beers, a pilsener and a dunkel, were nicely served, well-kept and tasted good. It’s a large modern, brick hall-like place built on an old estate and promoting a clean and airy impression. Seems to be popular for eating lunch and dinner. Friendly and polite service. An extra score for the brilliant toilet facilities. Relatively central location (visited, 30.07.2012). | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 Christian (197) Odense, Denmark | August 12, 2012 RBESG 2012 - day 3. Big and light place, ith quick and efficient (and good looking) service. The first beers had a heavy sulphur smell, and while it got better, the svetle didn’t get entirely clean in the three hours we spent there. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Dedollewaitor (274) Odense, Denmark | August 7, 2012 Large and modern brewpub. 2 beers - Tmavy and Svetle. Both were served from some unclean taps during the 1st hour of hour visit. They got better during the day. Food was nice and the atmosphere was great. The waitresses . . Oh boy. Lovely! A must when in Bratislava. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 Borresteijn (141) Amsterdam, Netherlands | July 31, 2012 Visited during RBESG’12. Very large brewpub/restaurant, nice modern and classy interior, big lagering tanks in the back. Beers were good, set aside the rotten egg-fart smell of the first beers, for which they kept apologizing throughout our stay. Both their house beers were quite tasty, with the dunkel being my favourite. Service was quick and very friendly, food was tasty albeit pricy (I guess) for Slovak standards. Had a nice morning/early afternoon here. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 14/20 erickok (87) Tours, France | July 23, 2012 A very roomy and very modern place (in the inside) that clearly aim at a more modern crowd. Service as you’d expect in a big city, which brings positives as well as negatives. But the crew was very nice to us and we weren’t exactly easy on them. Our first beers were big rotten egg stinkers, but they apologized a million times. Food was tasty if not a little overcooked. Excellent for (larger) groups. The beers (if served correctly) are excellent too. What’s left is the price which is high for Slovakia. Enjoyed my stay. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Marko (188) Split, Croatia | July 22, 2012 Yeah, this is a nice place. Quite centrally located, it’s probably the biggest brewpub in Bratislava, though I could be wrong. Somewhat modern looking too. The mens’ toilet looking out at a children’s playground probably gets the Pedobear seal of approval. All kidding aside, it’s lighter than most other places and the atmosphere was great, but I’m afraid we created most of it. I prefered the pale here to the one in Drevena, and the Bubák was very good, "as usual". I do hope they expand the production, they show promise. While it’s not a situation where one can rate service effectively, the staff was certainly really efficient and nice, apologising more than once for the first 2-3 beers that smelled crappy... and props to the waitress for playing along with Mads (dedollewaitor) in one of the funniest moments of the gathering :). The food? Might be a touch more expensive than the norm, but it’s certainly good. My pork medallions in Niva cheese with lovely tiny baked potatoes looked scant at first, but it turned out to be filling enough for me, and tasty enough even if not stellar, but the hazelnut cream pancakes with fruit were delectable. I got to try heavy’s zander stew too and it seemed quite nice. All in all, not a bad place to eat and drink, even if there probably are slightly cheaper alternatives. They have wifi but it didn’t work properly when we were there. |
