Visited on Friday 26/04/13 around 5.30pm and we bagged one of the last two remaining tables. A medium to large rectangular shaped room awaits you with wooden tables and chairs. The walls are adorned with large mirrors and portraits almost like the hall to a medieval castle. There was also a smaller smokers room to the side. The beer is dispensed from a wooden barrel in the hallway as you enter and served by 40/50 year old male waiters to good effect. Great slice of tradition !

Das mit Abstand beste Kölsch kommt direkt vom Fass in der Friesenstraße. Dazu die solide und deftige Hausmannskost in einem traditionell-rustikalem Ambiente mit geschichtsträchtigem Flair. Wer Köln besucht und hier nicht war, hat definitiv Kölsche Lebenskultur und -freude schlichtweg verpennt!

Don’t miss this great yet quirky brew pub, I entered alone in between a conference and a meet up with a friend, with not a word of German I was welcomed seated and served .. the beers kept coming, cold, tasty and refreshing. Really enjoyed the spectacle of the barmen and the serving apparatus, good spot with friends or alone with a book. Beer is the best in town

Great little place. Beer brought as soon as you finish your last - works well with 20cl glasses - beer always tastes fresh. Food was great, and the service was very efficient - typically German! Really enjoyed the atmosphere though - very worth visiting for dinner and a drink or two!

Atmospheric place with four distinct drinking areas. As you enter, there is a small, cosy room to the left and a long narrow room to the right. There is also seating in the central corridor which leads to a large drinking area at the back of the pub. On our first visit, my friend and I sat in the left hand room which has dark wood panelling, stone floor and fixed wooden seating. From where we sat we could see the barrels of Kolsch being replaced at regular intervals in the central corridor. The beer was good and cold. On a second visit we sat in the larger room and sampled the food which was good and filling. Not to be missed.

Great ambiance at the biergarten, very good and fresh kölsh and also very tasty food. Recommended.

Tradition, tradition. Sprawling place with one rather nice beer on offer. And I get to spend a night next door to it fairly soon..

I love this place. More so that I get to visit semi-frequently. Just sit, enjoy, eat, drink and listen. Timewarp type buzz.

Freshest Paeffgen in town, served at lower temperature than at other places. Service is efficient and smiling. Interior is traditionnal and adds to the overall experience. Very nice place.

Das beste Kölsch ist immer noch ein Päffgen. Essen kann man hier auch,, gut aber es gibt bessere Brauhauskost. Leider ist das Personal besonders an Wochenenden irgendwie immer überfordert. Aber das gute Bier mlässt einen darüber gerne hinwegsehen.
