62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | April 8, 2013 I really like the early opening time of 4pm, I wish more craft places were open early(3pm or so) or for lunch because when you are just in town for a few days having to pack everything in between 5-11pm can be rough! Anyways, a nice little place in Omotesando, Matt the server was quite friendly and helpful. They have tasters(500 yen), glasses (500 yen), pitchers (3500 yen) and Yard Glasses (1000 yen) which are very reasonable prices. It has a nice central location making it easy to check out when in Shibuya and the vibe is a really chill standing bar. The only downside was the selection, just 4 taps and one was out (the porter) so they lost point there. The beers themselves are all decent but unexciting, I get the feeling they are taming things down for newbies to craft beer. So it would be a great place to take someone to show them something different from macrobrews. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 chuwy (26) , Japan | April 1, 2013 It is just a box but the only place you can always get at least 3 or 4 Brimmer beers on tap. not a huge tap list but all the guys produce so all we can ask for, really. Not sure if they have bottles to sell. Shame if they haven’t as they would lose the take away market right there. They do though serve take away cardboard growlers, about 1L in size. On occasion, Scott Brimmer (head brewer) works behind the bar and then it’s worth it just to chat to him. Very knowledgeable guy and super friendly.
Beer is 500yen and served in tall glasses that I’m guessing are between 300-400ml. They occasionally have a small BBQ cart parked inside serving pulled pork and BBQ sandwiches which isnt bad but there is always the option of the cheap and delicious fried chicken in the box next door. Also space to stand outside plus you can go up to the 2nd floor (outside, roof of the box!) and sit down and watch the pretty people walking past. The area is a very classy section of Tokyo. Small walk from Omotesando station. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | January 14, 2013 4 Brimmer beers on tap. Nice to sit outside in good weather and watch the people walk by. A cool place to hang and drink good, cheap beer. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 jonno (105) , Japan | December 16, 2012| Updated April 1, 2013 Pros - Cheap as chips, even though serving size is now around 300ml. Lots of free samples. Attentive staff. Smells great and the BBQ food is fantastic. Cons - It’s a box. A small box. Only four beers on tap - one seasonal and three regulars. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 14/20 TimE (216) Tokyo, Japan | October 23, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 Not much to say about this place. It is literally a box (part of an old shipping container) with one table, a shelf a long the wall and a stand that serves four draft Brimmer beers. Fits about 10 people max inside, but you can go outside and there are stairs to go on top of the box, which actually has decent views. Prices are about the best in Tokyo, 500 yen for 500 ml plastic cup.
Update - The bad news is beer is now served in glasses and is much smaller portion for the same price. The good news, the beer quality continues to improve and they now serve pulled pork sandwiches, which are delicious. Considering the beer is still a good deal, the overall rating needs to go up | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 shoulderbroken (119) Tokyo, Japan | October 16, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 I like it. It is exactly what the name says, a box where they serve Brimmer beer. Whilst the interior of the portakabin isn’t particularly full of atmosphere, it is nice to go up the stairs and sit on one of the tables on the roof. Probably couldn’t stay here all night, but very good place to meet up, or to pop in for a quick one. Not sure if the appeal will last when it is Winter though. Excellent value, decent size glasses for ¥500 and the beers taste better here than when I have had them previously. 4 choices on tap, the Golden Ale, Pale Ale, Porter and one rotating seasonal as far as I can see. Feel mean marking it 8 for selection, given it is so small and limited to one brewery but I guess 8 is about right. |
