86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 JStax (72) Devola/Marietta, Ohio | April 17, 2013 Stopped in early on a Saturday afternoon. Aside from the place being difficult to find and driving by it probably 4 times, I have no complaints. There’s a parking lot just a short walk away. It looks like a warehouse from the outside, but on the inside it’s fairly modern. They had 6 mead taps and 4 beer taps. I ordered their sampler and was treated to 5 pours of their meads, all of which I enjoyed tremendously. The Apple Pie Mead was excellent. Very good service with each bartender that served me being quite knowledgeable about their meads and were genuinely interested in talking to me about them. Friendly environment. If I lived closer, I would visit this place all the time, especially now that I know how to get there! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (561) Columbus, Ohio | December 30, 2012 (Visited 11/2012): Brothers Drake, which formerly occupied a storage garage in Worthington, now has a tap room on 5th and High. There is a microscopic lot next to the building, and street parking on Pearl.
The building shares space with Middle West Spirits, with Brothers Drake on the right side. The tap room is cozy with a bar along the back wall and a couple tables opposite. In the back part of the space there is a stage for their regular musical acts. There is a large board behind the bar listing what Meads are in rotation. White cinder block and wood motif.
Brothers Drake features many of their Meads both on tap and in bottles. On my visit they had many of their year-round offerings like Apple Pie and Bergamot Blue. I also tried a few new ones like Black Liquorice and Paw Paw. Their Meads are consistently good, and they offer flights of 5. The Meadery also offers a few Ohio brewers on draught and in bottles. The taps included Jackie O’s, Barley’s and Portsmouth on my visit. Bottled options included Rockmill, Hoppin’ Frog, Rivertown, Thirsty Dog and Brew Kettle.
Service at Brothers Drake is good. The bartenders were well-versed in their Meads and kept up with the crowd at the bar.
I did not try any food on my visit.
Overall this is a cool spot near Short North.
| 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jsquire (121) St. Marys, Ohio | September 16, 2012 This is a really neat little place that was almost too hip for me to be there. Great wait staff, lots of the meads ready for drinking, and many bottles for take away sale. They had some guest beers and a full cocktail bar with signature cocktails they make with the meads. They had a little band playing. Next time I’m going to dress better. Really nice meads. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 phaleslu (314) Cincinnati, Ohio | March 19, 2012 Brothers Drake is a small production meadery and bar just off the Short North strip in Columbus. There isn’t a huge sign or anything outside. The inside is rustic and small, with a stage off to the left, the production in back, and a small bar in front. Not many tables. I ordered a sampler of the meads; there were maybe 9 or 10 total available, and the sampler had 5. Really great stuff. They also had 2 taps, both of which were filled with Jackie-O’s. That was an absolute thrill for me and my buddy. The prices are fair for mead so be prepared for wine bar-like prices. Friendly, knowledgable staff. Very cool vibe here overall. Thanks to Puddintane for taking us here and TheBaldWizard for meeting us. This was my favorite place in Columbus. I will be returning, and spreading the word. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 MikeF (204) Cleveland, Ohio | January 2, 2011 Small production in what looks kind of like an apartment building. Small shop at the front entrance with friendly shopkeepers. The mead is very good and they have a few different styles. No beer or food. Worth a stop if you like mead. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 DragonStout (96) Pickerington, Ohio | August 28, 2009 Went to the meadery with BeerVirgin and expierienced an actual Mead pairing dinner. It was catered by Laura’s Catering. The caterer did an awesome job.The meads were tasty and blended well with the food. Some of the food actually had some mead in it.The salad dressing rocked! Two of the owners were there and hosted.Ben was very knowledgable with mead and showed us the place they make the mead. Its in a small garage with 6 tanks. They also offer brew your own mead classes. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 BeerVirgin72 (96) Pickerington, Ohio | August 28, 2009 This is actually a Meadery, but there seems to be no category for that. They have NO BEER only MEAD. A small tasting room in front where you can always try their meads. And then they also host. They do not have food on site, but the events are catered by Lauras Catering. Tonight we attended a mead tasting/w dinner for 25 bucks a head and it was great. Four samples of their mead and a wonderful full dinner. Owners were available for our questions. Showed us around. Explained a TON about mead making. Excellent hidden gem here in Central Ohio. They have about six regular meads and are brewing two to three specialty meads as well. |
