78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (389) London, England | May 16, 2013 Overall, The Bull is a great place to visit. Highgate is a lovely neighbourhood, and this pub fits in well. It’s upscale while still pubby, and the range of beers on tap and [even more so] in bottle is impressive. The only downside is that the house beers, from London Brewing Co., are quite average - at best; at worst, they’re amateurish. I tried four on my visit and none were really great. A few were fine, a few seemed to be lacking condition. Nevertheless, this is a nice pub and I’m hopeful that the quality of the beers will improve. The food on offer looks pretty good, although I didn’t eat on my visit. I’ll be sure to check back on this place. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 wheresthepath (47) , England | January 28, 2013 Friendly, bustling brewpub with a decent selection of other beers on cask, keg and bottle. Staff were helpful and reasonably knowledgeable. Didn’t try the food although the menu looked good. I’d go back if I was in the area. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 caesar (224) Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | December 19, 2012 Nice restaurant/brewpub in a classy area of London. I tried some of their own beers, which were ok middle of the road brews. Food was very nice, tried a small fish platter. Decent service. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 nate2g (443) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | May 23, 2012 Enjoyed many an evening at The Bull. A lovely brewpub located in leafy (and hilly) Highgate. While technically a brewpub, the brewing kit is tiny and neatly tucked away in the restaurant kitchen! Speaking of which, the food is the drawcard here...lovely dishes, especially the spicy pulled pork. The house brews are rough around the edges, but drinkable nonetheless. Definitely recommend the trek to North London. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Boudicca (372) London, England | February 18, 2012 A stylish but cosy and welcoming pub, home to the London Brewing Company.
The Bull is just north of Highgate village and a handy hop on the number 214 bus from the Southampton Arms, down the hill in Gospel Oak. It’s home to the London Brewing Company, a welcome new addition to the London beer scene, operating as a two and a half barrel brewpub with the kit in the kitchen.
It was very quiet when we visited on a Wednesday evening early in December to celebrate Mes’s birthday but we found a large table upstairs and made our own party. The upstairs room is light, airy and elegant with pot palms and jazz music adding to the relaxed atmosphere. The windows overlook a patio at the front which was adorned with pretty fairy lights.
There were six cask beers, including a guest cider and a guest perry, and nine keg beers alongside a good range of bottles. The food menu has a distinctly American twist (e.g. pulled pork) and is to be recommended. The staff were very friendly.

Visited for the first time on Saturday 10th September 2011. Comfortable and welcoming, subdued lighting and at the time of my visit, soft background music at a comfortable level. There are more rooms upstairs with one of them available for hire. Currently there are eighteen taps of which 6 are handpulls. Two of these dispense the pub’s own brews - recommend London Beer Street. Dark Star features amongst the guests. Beers very well-kept. An interesting food menu is offered which is slightly US-leaning with pulled-pork and sliders part of the fare. I enjoyed the vegetarian option of mushroom pie with fresh fennel and salad. Visitors will be impressed with the very reasonable beer prices - for example Beer Street was £2.80, others are around £3.10/3.20 still representing very good value for the area. Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, rubbing off rather nicely on service. Let’s not end without mentioning the bottle range which is currently 30 odd, and interesting as well - see for yourselves! A welcome addition to Highgate’s pubs. Do visit! |
