70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 13/20 beerbaaron (31) Wisconsin | February 13, 2013 moderate sized Belgian heavy selection but nothing out of the ordinary. Service is good. Staff knowledge is hit and miss. Decent food, especially brunch. Some over-priced beers on the menu. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 luthertorrez (12) Aurora, Colorado | January 19, 2013 Having been to Benelux and Cafe Centraal, I’ll just say the food is about equal, but the staff is much friendlier here. I suspect the location has a lot to do with that. Being from Colorado I’ve found the character in KK Ave to be far more unique than where Benelux is located. This would be a top choice for a good dining and drinking night out. My wife’s not a fan of beer, but I’d still bring her here. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 demmbonz (48) Wisconsin | October 21, 2012 A little highbrow but good selection of imported stuff. Lots of taps. Above average food. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 coharahawk (57) Milwaukee, Wisconsin | July 4, 2012 See my rating for Benelux. Better beer at sugar maple next door, better food at lulu across the street. With that in mind, I never find a reason to visit here. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (200) Chicago, Illinois | February 28, 2012 During last Milwaukee trip stopped in. Pretty cool Belgian cafe that serves a solid selection of Belgians on draft and by the bottle at reasonable prices. Nothing particularly shocking here but really pretty good selection. Kind of reminds me of some of the spots in Philadelphia. Nice. | 76 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 mrjaxson (27) .08 Junction, Wisconsin | November 24, 2010 There are better beer selections in this great Bay View neighborhood, but it is hard to top the selection of Belgians (and American-made pseudo-Belgians) at Cafe Centraal. See for yourself at http://www.diablosrojos.us/admin/pdfs/cafecentraal_beer.pdf. The best food options are found on the weekend brunch menus (along with a heavenly section of Bloody Marys and spiked breakfast drinks--sorry if mentioning that is heresy on ratebeer.com!). The dinner menu is a bit limited. A good late-night choice is ordering a cone of frites and one or two dipping sauces. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 sunnyridge (28) | April 5, 2010 Belgian beer lovers are lucky to have Centraal and its sister bars Hollander East Side and Hollander Wauwatosa. Outstanding selection of Belgians including Trappist biers. Very thoughtful choices and well picked Belgian style beers not from Belgium. I beleieve 20 tappers on hand. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 1/10 OVERALL 7/20 esjaygee (236) Oak Creek, Wisconsin | November 17, 2009 Went here because I hadn’t eaten in forever and Sugar Maple doesn’t serve food other than soup. The food was decent but spendy, the service was decent. It was nice to sit on regular chairs (not a big fan of the third grade chairs and tables at Sugar Maple). The tap list was mostly Belgian and not too bad, but since the prices were ridiculous I ordered nothing. I simply went next door to Sugar Maple and saved $3 a beer. Perhaps I’m bitching too much about price - and I tend to do that - but that alone will keep me away. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 kmeves (100) Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin | September 2, 2009 A great place in Bayview just down from the Sugar Maple. Extensive Belgian Beer selection in bottles as well as great food. Get the Muscles in white wine sauce, they are the best I’ve had in some time. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 beerwolf77 (11) Milwaukee, Wisconsin | July 10, 2009 This is a great place to eat and drink craft beer. Usually the two don’t go hand in hand. The bar is huge so you can usually get a seat if you get there before 9. I’ve enjoyed some long drinking and eating sessions at this place. |
