I stayed at a small apartment just across the street from this place, in fact I picked up my key at the bar. Very friendly place, tasty food, and the beer is OK, although nothing exciting. Great neighborhood, walking distance to other restaurants and beer bars.

Pretty much agree with the previous comment, nice place but not really full of rare beer. Lovely authentic brown cafe atmosphere though, and the Witheer was nice on a very warm afternoon.

I was in two minds whether to add this place to the Ratebeer list but it’s a pleasant, old fashioned place and it does have a few rateable beers on draft. On our first visit last year we were drawn in by the board outside advertising Strandgaper from Schelde but it was finished so we had the then ubiquitous Tasty Lady and a Witheer instead.

The Morgenster (Morning Star) is on the old canal on the opposite side to Café Belgie and, although it was busy on a Friday evening, it was a much more pleasant place to be for a nightcap. Suspended on one wall is a spike ball which casts a star shaped shadow on the ceiling – quite atmospheric. Service was good and the local clientele, most of whom seemed to be sitting outside, were friendly.
