82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | February 10, 2013 Located just outside Catford Bridge train station, readily accessible from London Bridge. Nice traditional place with a contemporary edge to it. The tap selection on my first visit was pretty impressive - 10 casks and 4 "guest kegs". The focus is clearly on interesting UK microbreweries with Kernel, Moor, Marble, Thornbridge and the like available. There were also a few decent bottles such as Flying dog, BrewDog etc, but it’s the draft beer to go for. Friendly Staff, nice atmosphere and a great choice of beer makes this an essential visit when in the SE. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 planky84 (18) , England | November 21, 2012 Excellent turnaround from the horror that was the Copperfield. Well served ales, decent food and quality ambience. Now shockingly under threat by an unscrupulous property developer who’s keen to turn an extremely successful pub into a Tescos Metro (or whatever). A campaign to save the pub can be found here: http://www.catfordbridgetavern.com/save-the-tavern/. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Desverger (20) Copenhagen, Denmark | November 18, 2012| Updated December 6, 2012 Surprised that this Pub is not on here yet as its becoming very well known to many discerning ale drinkers in SE London and has been getting rave reviews elsewhere. The pub premises was taken over earlier this year and since its rebirth as the "Catford Bridge Tavern" has fast become my (and i’m sure many other peoples) new local. They have a ever changing circulation of up to 14 taps/kegs of Real Ale and Cider that I have always found to be in great condition. Very happy to say they always seem to have 1 or 2 kegs of whatever "The Kernel" have been brewing, and the most common names on rotation that I have had the pleasure to enjoy include many brews from the likes of Thornbridge/MagicRock/Redemption/Arbor/Oakham/BytheHorns/Hardnott among many others. You will also find a good collection of bottle conditioned ales as well. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the food to accompany your brew of choice is both tasty and varied, no matter if your having a pork and black pudding sausage roll or scotch egg at the bar with your pint, or having a full hearty meal in the cosy restaurant in the next room. Thoroughly recommended. (UPDATE: On 20th November it has temporarily closed while a new lease is negotiated, the good news is that the planning application was rejected by Lewisham council protecting it with a Article 4, meaning it must stay as a pub) Great result, hopefully CBT will be back soon!) (UPDATE 2: It is reopening Friday 7th Dec from 18:00 Hooray!!) |
