Went on a Tuesday evening for dinner and some beer. You have to go downstairs into a basement environment that is split into 2 separate rooms. The food is nothing special and I would probably avoid eating here (more because there are much better places nearby but if you want generic decent pub food its fine); our server was friendly, knew a decent amount about their beer, and was happy to provide samples. Mostly Ontario beer and a decent selection but once again you can tick many of these elsewhere (Bar Hop would be my favourite new place fo rsure). That being said have to mention that I love the house blend that pokes fun at the mayor. Would say that if you are in the area this place is worth visiting for a couple ticks but unless there is a special event there are better places.

Re-rate, stopped in with a larger group, with plenty of space available to sit. Our server was down right rude and so disinterested in serving us. Probably the last time I ever come here. Really a shame.

A large, down-to-earth, downstairs bar in downtown Toronto with a good reputation for having an extensive range of craft beers, including Alís Cask Ale brewed specially for them by County Durham Brewing.

Pros: Selection of Ontario micros is extensive, merely good in terms of the world. That said if you are visiting its probably one of the best places to try an assortment of the core Ontario micro brands. Food is reasonably priced and extremely tasty, good comfort food, or upscale pub grub with a touch of ethnic thrown in. Comfortable relaxed environment generally, nice bare brick walls. Great spot to try a bunch of local brews for visiting Ratebeerians. I come back fairly regularly to eat with friends and family since it pleases a wide audience.
Cons: Has a historical reputation for surly staff but I find that has improved recently. If coming in a large-ish group be aware that it can be obnoxious getting a table on a busy weekend evening or during one of their festivals.

Basement pub in a nice area of down-town Toronto. Good selection of beers. Some made by themselves and lots of locals. Nice clean place. Iím not sure on the decor, but who cares. Iím here for the beer in a chilled out atmosphere. Nice place.

This is one of the better beer bars and microbreweries in Toronto. Their own beers are some of the best available which includes a modest selection of other Canadians beers, especially from Ontario. Not bad food either.

Ask for Joan. She is a grumpy, lovely, knowledgeable curmudgeon, who knows beer inside out and backwards! The beer selection is extraordinary, with at least 3 on cask at all times. Lots of special events, including single malt tastings. The food menu could use an overhaul, but on the libation side you will noot be disappointed.

Went on a night with live music, great beer selection; if only domestic, knowledgable staff and good service.

This is a cozy bar/brewpub in downtown Toronto. It is set in a basement and there is an area of couches around a fireplace, which is right where we headed on a rainy, dreary, day. It was so cozy, I just wanted to settle in and stay there for the rest of the day. Anyway, they offer quite a few drafts, about 5 of the Cíest What? beers, some regulars, and then about 15 rotating taps. All Canadian offerings. They also have 4 casks on regularly. The food menu is mostly standard pub fare - I got the shephardís pie which was cheesy but very tasty. Prices are on the high side for beer (I think around $5 for a 300 ml pour) but probably comparable to the rest of places in downtown Toronto. Service can be a little slow when youíre in the couches section, but I didnít mind. Overall I had a great time here and strongly recommend it (especially if itís a nasty day outside!).

One of my default haunts in Toronto. Basement bar, fairly good space with a pooltable and fireplace. Service can vary, but sitting at the bar usually guarantees prompt service. food is a good value, but youíre here for the beer- a large amount of ontario craft taps with a few occasional surprises from Quebec. Only suggestion - rotate the taps a bit more. Would love to see more seasonalís here. usually 3-5 casks running, which usually provide the more interesting beers here.
