74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 Westkyoto77 (4) Kyoto , Japan | March 6, 2013 Can’t fault the spectacular view over Osaka from the bar. Annoying country music on the radio, but otherwise a relaxing enough ambiance. Good selection of Japanese craft beer, if a little steep in price (650 yen for a 240ml ’M’, and 1100yen for a 453ml ’L’). Food similarly dear, but of good quality. I was disappointed to have been given a ’last order’ at 2.30 in the afternoon- I could have stayed there and explored the menu a little longer. Still, this is Japan and rules are rules. Will be back. | 76 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | February 24, 2013 Craft Beer House Molto is located on the 31st floor of the Hankyu Grand Building which gives you a fantastic view of Umeda facing towards JR Umeda Station. They have about 6 tables seating around 20 people and then a long bar facing the window for another dozen people or so. During the day there’s no table charge (lunch service from 1130-3pm last order at 2pm) but at night(5-1130pm last order at 11) if you want to sit down you have to pay 300 yen. They now have a standing bar area at the entrance (no view) where you can avoid the table charge & get some free nuts to eat too!
The standing bar is a great idea making it reasonable to pop in for a quick drink after work. Which is what I did! I had lunch with my wife, went to work then stopped by for a beer before heading home. The staff were friendly and had ok beer knowledge. The selection was all Japanese craft but had decent variety with the menu broken up into lager, weizen, ale, IPA & black styles. Prices are pretty standard with 650 yen for 240ml and 1100 yen for 453ml. But for 1300 yen you can get a tasting set of three 140ml beers which isn’t a bad deal.
They also have 3 levels of nomihodai. The A nomihodai just gets you cocktails & heartland for 1500 yen, for 2500 yen B nomihodai adds 3 craft beers and C nomihodai gives you access to all 24 craft beers for 3500 yen.
For lunch you have 3 choices: a beer curry at 900 yen, a 1200 yen lunch set or a 1500 yen craft beer & otsumami (tapas) set. The food looked great and tasted quite nice, I think it is a great place for lunch.
I think it is a nice addition to the Kansai beer scene, I wonder if I can talk them into opening one up around Kyoto station...
| 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 shoulderbroken (119) Tokyo, Japan | August 28, 2012 Amazing view. Great place to have a couple and just look out the window. Large selection and although there didn’t seem to be anything too out of the ordinary it was easy for me to find stuff I wanted to drink. No cover charge in the afternoon. Well worth popping in for a couple. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | July 13, 2012| Updated December 11, 2012 Went in the on the second day after opening. Amazing view of Osaka from the 31st floor. The place itself is a bit narrow and tight, though, especially when it’s full. Nice wood interior. 24 taps are all pretty solid examples of Japanese craft, though not many exciting choices. Food looked good. Would be great to sit by the window, looking out and drinking good micros. Let’s see how the menu develops. |
