78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (205) London, England | February 1, 2013 This place is located off the beaten track, so its taken me ages to finally check it out. The ambiance is very much like its sister pub, The Jolly Butchers. Long bar style set up with plenty of wooden tables. Low lighting. The selection’s pretty strong. There were 10 cask beers available (3 ciders) with another 12 or so on keg. Plenty of bottles in the fridge from the likes of Kernel, Brodies. The beer list was well curated if a little lightweight. I struggled to find new stuff to try. Still, if you wanted to have a session here, you’d have plenty of options. The service was solid. The value was fair, in line with what most craft places are charging in the city these days. Overall, the Crown & Anchor’s nice, but not a must-visit venue. If I lived in the Brixton area I’d stop by regularly. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 EdKing (101) London, England | December 23, 2012 New bar on Brixton Road which has somehow stayed off the Ratebeer radar in the last 6 months. Has a staggering 11 beers on keg and ten cask pumps alongside fridges full of a great range of bottles including Victory, Kernel, Dark Star, Odells and many others. Nice spacious looking bar with sit down tables. More of a gastro pub meets craft beer bar. Beer quality was on the money when I tasted Portobello Pale and food was outstanding. This won Timeout’s Best New Beer Bar and I think it could be well deserved. |
