64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 GT2 (344) Riverslime, California | March 1, 2013 A dive bar with nearly 100 taps, quantity over quality. Ambiance is pool bar, darts, casual, unassuming. Some interesting finds on tap though with Green Room, Cigar City, Swamp Head, and I’m sure Bold City and Intuition. Overall less impressive thank Kickbacks across the street plus this place does not serve food and the ambiance is not as good. Bright, industrial lighting was a little bizarre for a dive bar. Prices are low and the bartender was kind, though no beer expert. Didn’t seem like you could get taster size pours so get ready to get a bunch of random drafts and share them around I guess. One thing to note is that there isn’t so much overlap on the taplist here with Kickback’s, so it is definitely worth a peek in after a Kickbacks night to see what is up and maybe play some pool. Fun place overall. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 jbruner (56) Tallahassee, Florida | February 25, 2013 Very dive bar for the amount of taps, but it has its charms. Pool tables, a ping pong table, dart boards, and a fun game of "Beer-tleship". Service was friendly but not the most knowledge, I wanted Hopslam and he recommended the Pensacola Bay Lil’ Napoleon. The real star here is the shear amount of taps this place has, which I have also heard means they don’t clean them very often, but I guess that’s to be expected with the esthetic of the bar. Kickback’s is up the street and it’s a lot better for beer lovers. | 64 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 azorie (28) Florida | February 10, 2013 Been twice, early on they opened early but the place is quite frankly a sad dump. Cheaply done. at least the bathroom was clean. but there is just 1! its a single bar that happens to try to take advantage of the craft beer fad. Its sad I liked it when it opened early. They had some nice owners that own around bar, but they seem to lack passion for the beer. Its just a quick buck to many here in town sadly.
Service is ok but you have to go to bar, so you hope so. Prices are tad high imho. Sadly half pours and all that crap.
After 2nd visit we never go back unless it changes. its too bad they COULD have beat out KB, its NOT that hard to do. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 jsquire (120) St. Marys, Ohio | January 6, 2013 This place had lots of taps and the ubiquitous games that all the bars seem to have in Jax. Ping pong, foosball and giant drinking battleship games were there and Connect Four seemed to be a hit. Young crowd. They had plenty of craft beer, Florida micros and imports on the tap list. Fun place if you can put up with the 20-somethings. | 58 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 drowland (142) Jacksonville, Florida | September 30, 2012 9/29/12.
Wow, this place sucks.
I went after midnight on a Saturday night, so maybe that was part of the issue. Decently lit place, packed with frat boys and gross, skuzzy people. The place houses pool tables, ping pong tables, and some sort of weird life-sized battleship. It’s definitely not what you’re expecting out of what claims to be a great beer bar with 85 taps. The music was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think, let alone talk to my wife.
Our bartender was prompt enough and able to tell us what was on tap and little bits about the beer. In fact, he was perfectly nice and fine, which was a change from the rest of the disaster this place was.
85 taps, but many are taken up by macros. They focus on Florida and local beers, but there is definitely nothing special on tap. An out of stater could get a ton of ticks, though.
One of the weirdest parts is that they don’t have a liquor license, so they sell all of these weird cocktails made with "wine based" liquor... we were able to score $2 jello shots... okay...
The beers were average priced.
Overall - I will not be back to this place unless there is something on tap there that I can’t get at other bars. |
