68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (53) Gatineau, Quebec | November 17, 2011 Tiny corner store which is rammed with shelves of beers and old cooler also full of micro beers. I haven’t seen so many beers crammed into such a tiny place ever. Selection is pretty good though you won’t find as much as Peluso. Owner is very nice and willing to help though has limited knowledge. Prices are fair and parking is reasonably easy to find. | 56 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 cfrancis (70) Ottawa, Ontario | May 20, 2010 I don’t know if I’ve seen more beer crammed into a smaller place. Walk sideways down the aisle and walk in freezer is crammed with Quebec micros. Nice owner although knows squat about beer. Can’t believe this place was two blocks from my brother-in-laws old place and I never knew about it. | 72 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 duffbeerfan (8) | October 23, 2009 Also known as «le paradis de la bière» (the beer paradise), this convienience store just looks as any other in town.
But, when you go in, you recognize its singularity by having an enormous variety of micobrewery beers. With a cheap cost, you’d like to go back there for more. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 elihapa (65) Honolulu, Hawaii | November 28, 2008 I went well out of my way (on foot!) to find this little gem. Looking back, I am not sure it was worth it, but here goes the review:
Tucked on a rather unspectacular corner of a quiet residential district in Montreal, Simon Anthony -- who is the owner -- advertises his shop as a "paradise of beer". Upon entering, a trail of display beer directs you back to an adjacent, cramped room which is appropriately adorned floor-to-ceiling in beer. Yes, for those of us from America used to wonderful international variety from our beer stores, Simon Anthony will disappoint on the grounds that it ONLY sells Quebec beer (besides Stella, Guinness, Leffe, etc).
Yet the selection and pricing at this place makes it definitely worth your time. I found Charlevoix, DDC, a good selection of Bieropholie, as well as a couple interesting beers contract brewed by Mr. Anthony himself. Prices were reasonable, and the owner was quite friendly. A good experience. | 76 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 BINGEBOT (9) Toronto, Ontario | July 4, 2007 I could not find a better place in Montreal (based on the suggested places) to buy beer. But it’s still hard to find well rated beers. I came away with a nice selection of mid range. Just the same, the guy was really helpful, emptying out boxes for me to use and even gave me a free glass. If you’re in Montreal and looking to pick up some beer, go here! It’s literally a corner store, stocked to the brim with beer, not the best ambiance, but for the beer alone, go there! | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (521) Montreal, Quebec | January 21, 2006 Northeast of central Montreal, but not that far away, this is another small convenience store which seems to hold every bottled beer sold in Quebec, save for the Microbrasserie Charlevoix lineup. It’s a relatively new place, so that might change soon. Owner is fun to talk to, if not entirely knowledgeable of the products he sells, but seems to like the niche in which he is operating. You will get the same selection at Joannette, Rahman, or Boni-Soir Peluso, so there’s no reason to detour all the way here, but if ever you’re in the area, you’ll find what you need here. |
