50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 9/20 AguynamedTodd (89) Illinois | April 25, 2013 Located downtown with many eateries nearby, I really don’t see why you would eat here. The food is mediocre, even for a brewpub, and overpriced. The service is terrible. I was sitting at the bar, took several minutes to get a beer, even when it really wasn’t busy. A woman came in after me and had to wait longer than I did. Had to flag down the bartender so she could get a beer. The only person that didn’t have to wait was the guy she was flirting with. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Brewchacho4 (5) Vancouver, WA, Washington | April 11, 2013 One of my favorite breweries in Portland, OR. The atmosphere is very open and upscale. Seating is usually pretty quick unless you’re there for a release like The Abyss, where it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour to get a seat. It’s worth the wait IMO no matter what. They always have solid beers on tap, the service is great, and I’ve (so far) never had anything to eat there that wasn’t delicious. They have a lot of offerings for vegan/gluten-free as well, which is nice. Overall, this is a must see for any beer lover visiting Portland, OR. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 rickhall28 (125) Denville, New Jersey | March 11, 2013 This is a must stop on any visit to Portland. During me recent travels there it was suggested by some locals that these guys were the big guys in town and that somehow that made them less cool...less "worthy"...well they make great beers...and yes...their place in very neat in a "big brewpub" way...but so what. They still have good food...great beer (large selection) and large but very interesting "digs"...especially for any craftbeer tourists visiting Portland. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | November 24, 2012 Visited on Weds 07/11/12 around 8pm. We had to wait for a table for 15 minutes, the place was pretty packed, although the wait line seemed to tick over fairly well.
Large single roomed venue with a partition down the middle.
Good selection of Deschutes beers and all available in 4oz samples to aid the ticking!
Service was fine bearing in mind they were pretty busy.
My only complaint was that the beers were a bit samey in terms of ABV, all 5 and 6% jobbies - would have been good to have had one or two stronger offerings on tap!
Definately worth popping by on a PDX crawl. The food looked pretty good although we held out for the Burrito at the mexican take away opposite Baileys! | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jcnielsen (138) Kansas City, Missouri | November 8, 2012 Visited while roadtripping through Oregon and Washington. Big open room, nice atmosphere, a little more of an upscale feel for a brewpub. As far as the taps go, there were some additional beers, but not a ton of different things than the normal beers. Great place to visit, nice atmosphere, good location, good beer. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jhogan4 (36) El Cajon, California | September 25, 2012 We visited this place in August of 2012. On the edge of the Pearl district. Really nice Northwest style decor and ambience. Great tap list, and the food was wonderful. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 PorterPounder (244) Tallahassee, Florida | August 19, 2012 Visited here in August ’12. Great downtown location, economical parking nearby. Beautiful decor with high ceilings, big windows with a view of passers by, plenty of brass. Had about 15 of their beers on taps with a few specialties like their Black Butte Anniversary. Food and service was outstanding - I had a spent grain pizza. Prices were not outrageous considering the location. Would be a regular stop if I worked in downtown Portland. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Westmeister (53) Atlanta, Georgia | August 6, 2012 Loved the interior of the place. Had the pub feel and really liked the tanks in the background of the bar. The beers were above average, but they did not have anything crazy on tap or for sale. Had the reuben and it was damn good. Really liked the joint. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 JPDurden24 (110) Chandler, Arizona | July 23, 2012 I really enjoyed my visit to this brewery and public house. I had some good beer, and the staff was awesome. Cheers to Deschutes! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Newk (32) , | July 10, 2012 The only "drag" on the atmosphere here is that it can get extremely packed at night. It almost doesn’t matter the night, there will generally be a good sized crowd at deschutes after 7pm.
Even with the crowds that will happen, Deschutes is well worth going to. They have a good amount of their own taps available at any time. It is usually never a problem getting a hold of a bartender when needed.
The food is very good. You can get a lot of different things off their food menu and I’ve yet to have something bad.
Deschutes is pretty much in my do-not-miss places when I’m in Portland. |
