72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Bjarte1 (70) , Norway | March 27, 2013 Tiny cosy pub with charm. 5 real ales and friendly service and atmosphere. Interesting mosaic tiles to watch while drinking Tribute from cask. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 13/20 Leighton (390) London, England | February 10, 2013 A cosy (or perhaps ’cramped’) pub with a range of ales typical of a Nicholson’s. The bar itself, the one from which you order, seems not to have been judiciously planned, as it’s quite a tight fit (at least it was on my Saturday evening visit) between the bar and the wall. I’m sure under less busy circumstances this pub would have a bit more charm, but on my stop it was just too crowded around the bar. I found a new Brains beer on tap (a bitter, if you’re interested) but there really wasn’t anything terribly exciting. The beers are not cheap here (mine was £1.90 for a half of the aforementioned bitter, a relatively low ABV offering at 4.2%) but I guess that’s the price you pay for drinking in Soho. This place isn’t a destination pub, but as with all Nicholson’s pubs I’d say it is worth checking out if you’re nearby. Also, there are not many better options than a Nicholson’s pub in this part of town. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Svesse (178) Hässelby, Sweden | June 3, 2012 Nice, traditional pub in the middle of Soho, run by Nicholson’s. Quite small, but the dark wood and the beautifully tiled walls make it a pleasant place for an afternoon pint. Nice and friendly service. Good selection of cask ales, London Pride is usually on, and there’s a steady stream of interesting and well kept guest ales. Good pub food. Worth a visit. | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 jrallen34 (271) Chicago, Illinois | May 5, 2012 7 casks but by 7 when I was there 4 had already blown. 5 were readily available macros with 2 decent mircros, underwhleming place not worth stopping by | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 saxo (111) Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark | April 6, 2012 Nice cozy pub in Soho. When owner saw my friend and me rating beers he went to the cellar and opened more casks so that we could try more samples - and all those extras were free. Cant blame the service here :) Food was fine too. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 HenrikSoegaard (219) Randers, Denmark | March 18, 2012 Realy cosey small pub in soho. Fantastic servicee. 6 casks and 6 tabs. When owner/beer resp. found out we were interested in beer, he gave 4 free samples of casks from celler not yet avalieble. Some of the beers very uncommon. Really a place to visit. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 EdKing (101) London, England | May 9, 2011| Updated May 21, 2011 Traditional Soho Pub (owned by Nicohlsons) renowned for it’s endorsement of real ale. Regularly has seasonal ales from different brewers from around the UK, alongside regulars including London Pride. Pub is very traditionally fitted inside with the original fittings. Said to be the watering hole of George Orwell and bar area named in his honour. However, is pretty small upstairs although regulars usually drink outside in Summer. I like the beer here, but the crowd is always a bit old and grungy for Soho. But if you want traditional old fashioned slightly smelly pub then this is your place. |
