Visited on 1 April 2014. Our second Broad Street Spoons of this trip. Has a much more traditional spoons look and feel that the nearby Solomon Cutler. And a far better beer range too - 10 handpumps including a few festival winners for me (the fact that it was Spring festival time was the main reason for looking in). The barman who served us was actually enthusiastic about his wares, which can not always be said of city centre Spoons. Throw in a pleasant beer garden and it all added up to a worthwhile stop.

Normal weatherspoons. Not so busy. Not too many varieties but in this neighbourhood, you have little choice.

Normally has a decent selection of cask, really pleasant beer garden, an oasis from the craziness of Broad Street. The toilets are a fucking disgrace though.

A standard ’Spoons made exceptional by the enthusiastic barman who had an interest in what he was selling. In keeping with this, the beer was in very good condition - in fact the Backyard Silly Rucker couldn’t be faulted. There was a festival on when we visited so the choice of beers was reasonable. We sat outside at the back, which has been made into quite a nice patio.

Very middle of the road JWD. Service super spotty, going from excellent when quiet to awful when busy. Food is JWD, can’t really be commented on more than ’okay’. Cheap and cheerful I guess. Attracts mix bag of clientele. Not my favourite JWD by a long stretch but has 10 casks which is great.

The older of two Wetherspoon pubs on the strip of bars on Broad Street in the city centre, with a more classic style in the chain’s look. This one attracts all ages but an older crowd would feel more comfortable here than the aforementioned sister pub. There’s also an open fireplace to add to the already comfortable surroundings. It also has a long and well stocked bar. WiFi and the usual menus obviously apply.

Reasonableish Wetherspoons place, slap bang in the middle of Broad Street, which means ordinarily it’s a place I’d give the swerve. Nice beer garden here, but packed of an evening. All the usual pros and cons.
