82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 DocJitsu (21) California | March 31, 2013 The exterior is a little rustic and inviting. They’ve just added an outdoor patio dining area. The inside has two distinct sections: an informal brewpub area and a more elegant (certainly not formal dining, however) and dimly lit dining area. A decent variety of food items are available, but they are a little too pricey. Service ranges from average to condescending. In fact, the last time I was there, one of the Firestone boys was one booth away, but the waitress was still passive-aggressive and not remarkably helpful. They do have a healthy array of FW beers on tap. Parabola and Union Jack to name two the last time I was there. Don’t go for the service. Go because you respect the magnificent FW beers and enjoy the fun events FW coordinates/sponsors. | 40 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 4/20 t0rin0 (239) La Verne, California | March 24, 2013 Visited March 23, 2013, finally, after scrolling past for several years.
I was excited to try their food since I’ve heard good things about the restaurant. The beer is good but its the same stuff I can get anywhere for the most part but at higher prices surprisingly. The stuff that is tap only is the same as what I had a week earlier at the brewery in Paso.
We only spent about 20 minutes in this place to be honest. We walked in, found no hostess and had to wait for one of the servers to get her. We were seated and in 20 minutes a bus boy came by and gave us water but no one came by to take orders. We walked in at 8:40pm and the kitchen closes at 9 so we were a little worried that maybe they had shut down the kitchen already. The servers we talked to when we walked in said no, it wasnt a problem. Well, the problem was that 9:00 came and we still didnt have any service. We walked out and hit Taco Bell on the way back to the freeway.
Basically: fuck this place. That said I’ll most assuredly stop in again to check out Barrelworks but I no longer care about trying their food. If/when I make it back I may revise my score. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 womencantsail (415) Garbage Grove, California | February 18, 2013 Large restaurant with lots of tables and a large bar with wine and the usual Firestone beers and a couple of special ones. There is also some Firestone merchandise available. The people were friendly and the prices are pretty good. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Schlenkerla (208) , Austria | February 9, 2013 We visited the brewery the first time in 2006 and once more late 2011. They have great barrel aged ales. The history of Firestone is quite amazing, nice pictures in the brewery are showing you some of the heritage. Very nice merchandising as well. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 bytemesis (224) Sunnyvale, California | February 4, 2013| Updated April 24, 2013 I was soooo looking forward to my visit to the Barrelhouse today; my only chance to see it. Lo and behold, they were closed for Superbowl Sunday. I was kinda pissed. The taproom was closed too, but the owner was still there, and they had a couple of locals hanging around. They were very gracious and let me in to pick up some Sucaba, which I thought was pretty nice of them. Looked like a pretty decent place, with the lineup of regular FW beers in stock. Re-rate based on stopping for dinner. Food was quite good, and the place is pretty spacious inside. Plus you can duck into the barrelworks for some tasters (but you can’t bring them back!) | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 jhogan4 (36) El Cajon, California | January 14, 2013| Updated April 24, 2013 This is my kind of place. We drove up from Santa Barbara to check it out. From the outside, it looks like a big warehouse with a house attached to the front - kind of odd. Once you walk in the front door, though, there is a well-lit bar area with several TVs (playoff football happened to be on). There is a small shop selling FW branded shirts and beers etc, and beyond that a large restaurant area with a high ceiling and views into the brewery. Very cool atmosphere. Service was very friendly, and the food was awesome. We brought small kids and they were also welcomed and happy. There were 12-16 FW beers on tap; I was a little disappointed nothing special, like Merkin or an anniversary beer, was available. Overall a really great place for any craft beer lover. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 IrishBoy (101) Bakersfield, California | November 5, 2012| Updated April 24, 2013 Excellent food (one brewpub my wife loves to stop at on our way to my sons) and a varied selection. Last time I was there I got to try Oaktoberfest and the time before they had Helldorado. You never know what will pop up here or in the tasting room. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 vodo (69) São Paulo, Brazil | July 15, 2012| Updated April 24, 2013 very good place to visit, you can taste 10 FWs beers on tap for a cheap price and take some pint to your house. the staff is very nice too. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 peteinSD (44) San Diego, California | May 16, 2012| Updated April 24, 2013 I always enjoy a stop here on my way through the area. Taps are usually the standard line-up with perpaps a seaonal like Parabola or Abacus if it was released recently. The fish tacos are overpriced but really quite good. The highlight for me is always having a pint of Union Jack on tap. | 52 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 dougdecinces (10) Indianapolis, Indiana | November 13, 2011| Updated April 24, 2013 I went here after my visit to Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company and the differences were stark. Figueroa was small, warm and homey; while Firestone Walker was more sterile and professional. It wasn’t a terrible experience, don’t get me wrong. Tastings were fairly priced. My server was knowledgable. Plus I got a free pint glass for my efforts. This would be a fine place to bring family for dinner, I just doubt that I would want to come here just to knock back a few beers with friends. |
