Ambiance: Industrial park in Frederick, but the brewery is great inside and out. Hop vines running from the ground to the roof three stories up, nice outdoor patio seating area, generous parking, small merch/beer sales area, big tap room with a large bar and good seating. Service: Great; tour staff was engaging and knowledgeable. Best brewery tour Iíve been on by far. Bar area service also great. Selection: Excellent. 18-20 taps with plenty of flagships, but also seasonals, specials, and limited releases. Food: N/A. Value: Excellent. Tour is free, first come first serve. Beer on side is extremely reasonable. Seven bucks for four, four ounce pours. Growler fills as low as 10 bucks. Merch ranges from average to pricey, but not exorbitant. Overall: Awesome experience. Would go again any time.

Went for the Barrel Aged Gonzo 2014 release. Arrived just after 12 PM on a Friday, pretty calm with a very small crowd possibly with people being at work. Didnít have a ticket for a tour this time but bought a wristband good for 5 tasting pours along with a complimentary glass. Pretty good selection of drafts with 18 drafts consisting of their year round, seasonal, limited, and brewhouse rarities beers. No food other than a food truck that came for the event. Pretty small gift shop with apparel, beer, etc. Value for the tasting was great even without being on the tour, bottled beer prices are average and 64 ounce growler fills seemed affordable at $10-15. No views of the brewery operations from the tasting room but I look forward to going back eventually for a tour.
Update as of 7/12/2015: Outdoor patio area has been revamped and looks nicer with nice wooden fencing and seating. They are now able to serve beer by the glass so no more need for the bracelet-style tickets with one pour at a time. Pours available in sample size individually or as a flight of 4, as well as individually in pints. $15 at most for growler fills, cheaper for less limited beers. Outside/non-Flying Dog growlers are allowed which seems to be a rare but welcome occurrence for Maryland.

Came to FD brewery as a guest to help build a cask for the stateline crew.... We went to Maxs in Baltimore for lunch and they picked us up in their RV to take us to the brewery...Pretty cool of them. Plus the RV has two taps in it! Boom! Road soda! Thatís good shit... So we get the brewery, typical industrial park setting... Walk right in to the tasting room, they give us some samples... take the tour, typical stuff, here is where we brew, here is where we ferment, here is where we bottle....etc... So back to the tasting room for more tastings. Cool.... Everyone is chill. We build our two cask.... more beer sampled some of which are brew pub only. They drive us back to Baltimore... Service was top notch the entire trip. Fast forward a month. They bring our cask beers to StateLine and have a tap take over... 22 beers or so. All are great. A lot of their employees are there including their CEO who seems down to earth... So all and all, these guys really went out of their way to take care of us and I appreciate it. I have always enjoyed their beers now I rave about the service as well. GOOD BEER, NO SHIT!!!

Visited for the Fall Riot beer festival. Beautiful day for it, all outside, but could have used a bit of shade. A dozen or so kegs, two or three casks with extra stuff added, so those are great for the tickers, of course. Beers were all worth trying, some very tasty, others just OK. Food trucks, music, booths with cider, soap, hummus and sauerkraut, fortunately not all on one plate. Oh, and tours for furloughed federals. Good times. The only change Iíd make is to offer smaller pours of the beer - 16 ounces of an 8.5% beer was hard to handle.

Aside from special events, place is just open for brewery tours and those can be tough to get into (currently a 90 day waiting list). If you can get signed up for a tour, itís totally worth it. $5 gets you a full sized glass and 5 tastings at the conclusion of the tour. Selection includes their main lineup, but also includes a few brewhouse exclusives. Your basic tour, but the guides keep it very entertaining and the connection to Hunter S. Thompson is awesome.

Great brewery, nice big space with lots of taps and an outdoor patio. Tour was a bit long, but the history of the company was interesting. Need to book this one in advance, but you could probably just show up and go on the tour, its pretty laid back.
update: tours are walk on except for Saturday, and you have to take one to buy any beers to go

Iíve lived in Frederick most of my life and had never been before now. Surprised by the 2 month wait list but I understand the popularity. Samples galore, tour guide was funny and informative. Interesting sampling the IPA through its various steps, much more interesting then merely being told. Whole thing lasted 2 hours and walked away with a small glass and a poster.
