52 Large, historic pub in the centre of Gloucester, much needed after the disasters of The Dick Whittington and The Lower George. It is a comfortable, calm place, rather up market but with a reasonable range of cask beer. It's worth a look if nearby. |

68 Another historic pub in Gloucester city centre. Beer range is solid and regional, service friendly and the bar and courtyard pleasant places to drink. |
68 Historic coaching inn with adult and calm punters the evening I visited. Friendly staff. Decent cask ales on. Did not eat. A "must" pub to visit when in Gloucester. |
78 Good selection of real ales but especially a good range of styles. Good ambience and good service. |
70 Off Westgate, down an alley which opens up into a kind of small courtyard. tables and chairs fill the area in front of the pub. The L shaped bar is straight in front as you walk in. Beware of the slope to the right (towards the toilets), it is not advertised and can catch you unawares if you have had too many BOB’s.
Only been in 3 times, but it has had top notch beers on offer each time, served by pleasant staff. I just love their Wickwar BOB, a local brew that is always on.
A very nice pub, can get a bit ’foody’ at times though, which isn’t ideal if you are on a mission! |
76 Set in an attractive alleyway off the main drag this is a traditional English pub with a low beam roof and comfortable soft furnishings. The real ales are on show as you walk through the door although my 2.8% mild cost a whopping £1.75 for a half. Lager is of course available too. It’s a laid back affair with music playing at a low background level. There’s a great brick fireplace in the centre of the room but it’s sadly not in use, however an open fire against the wall on the other side of the bar is very welcoming. WiFi is available here. |
