82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 boogerracing (2) Iowa | May 15, 2013 Best microbrew in QC area IMO. The food is great and the staff are very friendly. Love the taproom deck in the summer. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 CanIHave4Beers (72) Des Moines, Iowa | September 14, 2012 A perfectly nice brewpub I stopped into a few months back. The service was freindly, the beer was good, and the food was decent. It’s a nice little place, very low key, old school, brew pubby. I liked it and I’d go back. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 KAF (100) Coralville, Iowa | February 2, 2012 Great fish tacos is the best thing I can say about this place. The beer is rather boring and nothing special. Service is usually good and the bartenders are friendly. It is a nice place to stop before going to the casino, but if you’re looking for good beer go across the river to IL and get some good craft on tap. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 BVery (323) Burnsville, Minnesota | November 25, 2011 Visited here on Nov. 25, 2011. Nice family friendly pub and restaurant vibe. Good food selection. About a half dozen house brews on tap. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 heliport (10) Indiana | August 4, 2011 Stopped in just before closing on a Tuesday night and did a quick sampler. The bartender was busy preparing for closing, but was amiable. The beers were non-descript. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (200) Chicago, Illinois | September 8, 2010 Happened across here when we were on the river front in Davenport. Small and quaint neighborhood brewpub with a handful of house taps. Beer is quality, though nothing spectacular. Still, decent spot. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 10/20 emerge077 (72) < RIP Johnnies, Chicago, Illinois | August 23, 2010
This brewpub really seems to be phoning it in. All the beers had a similar watery homebrew quality to them. The Hefeweizen and Raging River were ok, but were similarly thin and watery. Apricot Ale was promising, but again lacked any distinctive character.
Atmosphere was a little hectic on a Saturday night, families having dinner, couples too, most were eating. Tables were close together and a bit cramped, yet one large table in the back was occupied by employees wrapping silverware. Worn wood floors and exposed brick and wood beams overhead. Some framed historical photos on the walls. Flatscreens above the bar, with baseball on. Bizarrely there were martinis and monster energy drinks pouring at the bar. Had the sampler and decided on a pint of the Apricot Ale, the rotating "brewmaster’s selection". Plates going by looked decent, but we didn’t try the food.
Sally was our server and she was great, really quick and friendly. We had to swap out one of the sampler glasses that was dirty, and she didn’t miss a beat.
We weren’t really feeling the vibe here, so we left after one round. Can’t really recommend it, Great River, Bent River, and Bierstube are better places for a beer in the area.
| 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Cavie (80) Fort Worth, Texas | June 8, 2010 Stopped in for dinner. Nice riverfront location with lots of wood/brick decor. I tried all they had to offer which wasn’t bad. The bartender wasn’t too talkative. Food was very tasty and well done. I had the hefe chicken. I would go back if I was there again. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 drowland (142) Jacksonville, Florida | August 22, 2009 I’ve been here quite a few times while living in the QC, and it’s a pretty good place; I’ll definitely be going back whenever I visit. The ambiance is okay, nothing special. It’s a small place that gets dim at night, but it’s best to sit outside on a cooler summer day - lots of fun. The service is hit or miss with the waiters and waitresses, but the bartenders are all pretty awesome. If you’re there around closing time and are talkative, they’re likely to hit you up with some free beers or at least free samples. The selection basically entails their beers, but they’re pretty nice - I especially like the Cherry and the Stout. The food here is pretty good. I’ve had some different dishes and they’ve all been fantastic. The value is good to average - some of the food can be a bit pricey, but the beers are average for the area. Overall, a grand little place just off the river with some good beers and great food! | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 esjaygee (236) Oak Creek, Wisconsin | February 1, 2009 Kind of a ghost town area right next to the might Mississip’. Ho hum building and the wait staff wasn’t terribly pleasant or unpleasant but kind of just there. No real knowledge of the beer. When I asked what the special beer was, she commented with "the special". Isn’t that special? It was the Downtown Brown, perhaps named after Tim Reid’s character in my favorite show of all time (Simon & Simon), but me thinks not. Anyway, the beer was forgettable at best but the fresh hand made pretzel was pretty good. IT was here I found out Michael Redd tore his ACL and MCL and will be lost for the season. As one of the 12 remaining Bucks fans, that kind of but a damper on the rest of my day trip to Moline and Davenport. Speaking of those towns, the roll up shop on Sunday – nothing was open around town. And yahoo’s map directions… forget it. Right on 12th, left on 2nd, right on 14th, left on 4th, etc. Zig-zaggin’ through da ’Port. |
