64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 wimpyjoe (568) Manchester, England | May 8, 2013 Set in its own courtyard away and sheltered from the busy main road, this pub comes into its own when the weather is good as tables are at a premium if it is good enough to sit outside, and the view of the actual building makes for a fine place to sit and sup. This is however a protected pub by the National Trust, so the heritage interior makes it just as worthy a place if you enjoy older world styling. Ales are of course served. | 54 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 11/20 kwik-lime (36) London, England | February 18, 2013 Lovely location but let down by average choice and prices. | 56 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 Boudicca (373) London, England | June 3, 2012 A lovely old galleried inn of historic significance and, appropriately, owned by the National Trust.
The George is just a short walk from Borough Market, close to London Bridge station. There are a lot of good pubs in this area, many of them with better and more interesting beer, but the George is worth a visit just to soak up the atmosphere. If the weather’s nice you can sit outside in the courtyard and admire the magnificent frontage of the inn; otherwise the handsome wood panelled rooms inside can be quite cosy.
(Last visited 21 March 2012). | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 BlackHaddock (228) , England | March 29, 2012 I like to drink in interesting and pleasant surroundings, this inn fits the bill nicely.
A short walk from the famous and expensive Borough Market, it is well worth finding. Sit outside in the sun (if you are lucky) and just stare at the whole magnificent lenght of the frontage. It is owned by the National Trust and they have produced a book laying out its history (I haven’t read it).
I have been three times and my beer has got better each time.
While in the area, if it is daytime, visit ’Neils Yard’, it is the most expensive cheese shop on the planet. It is almost opposite the Market Porter, another famous pub, next to Borough Market.
| 58 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (182) down the whirlpool, California | February 13, 2012 Hit this place up for a pint with my German brewing professor and a few other students on our historic London pub crawl while in town for our study tour. It was the end of November and quite cold. Drafty place with some hard wooden benches next to a small bar. Had the George Inn ale which is a Green King rebadge and was not in great shape. Not really a beer destination, but a decently interesting and very historic pub. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 Cunningham (247) Halden, Norway | February 8, 2012 This a truly grat and special place. You will not fine many of thes left in England.
They have an ok selection of ales. Very crowded on fridays, otherwise ok.
Very easy to find also. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 YULbier (250) Montreal, | September 21, 2011 Stunning interior! The dark wood make a very enjoyable decor to enjoy a pint. Problem is the selection is poor: few casks of rather bland beers. Sad because the place itself rocks. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 derekvaiti (3) modena, Italy | October 9, 2009 A nice place where to eat one of the most delicious fish and chips in London and where to drink some good beers such as Greene King IPA and Deuchars, but also the house beer, called George Inn is quite good as well.
The place isn’t the most comfortable and it’s often crowded and it could be hard to find a place where to sit and anyone seems to be interested in receiving you.
Anyway prices are fair and it’s a must for those ones who are visiting London, because it is one of the oldest pub in the city. | 54 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 berkshirejohn (136) Bracknell, England | June 5, 2009 Poor beer selection (GK plus one guest), but worth visiting for the atmosphere and history. Usually crowded. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | March 25, 2009| Updated October 1, 2012 Not a special beer place. Five real ales and lagers on tap. They had own real ale (The George Inn Ale) brewed by Greene King. Fish and Chips £8. The gas heaters on the terrace for the cold evenings (18.10.08). |
