Grumpy’s is the best place to go before a Vikings game if you like good beer, due to it’s close proximity to the Dome. Beer selection is good to very good, with the "very" due to the fact that they usually have a couple of special or hard to find beers on tap. They have a small patio in back which is nice, but fills up quickly before early-season Vikings games. Food is of the greasy burger variety, and tasty. It’s a bit of a dive so I probably wont go out of my way to go there, especially with Town Hall and Republic just down the street, but for Vikings games and perhaps an area pub crawl, it’s a must stop.

Grumpy’s Downtown is a rock n roll bar with decent bar food and some surprising taps. They have all the usual suspects that one would expect bars in MN could carry from the craft scene. Bells, Surly, Summit ect. However, they have 4 or 5 taps that rotate that usually end up being pleasant surprises. There’s been times I’ve walked in there on some random weekday night to a keg of Founders Black Biscuit or rare Stone barrels. WTF? they usually also have different firkin’s on Fridays, which is cool. Food selection is large and above average for bars.

Decent beer menu, but nothing special. Beers are very expensive. Service was friendly. Not a good ambiance, dirty but not like a good dive bar, but high prices that are not justified by the neglected interior. Not nearly enough beer to be a destination, and Town Hall is just down the street.
