Had to park about five blocks away, but managed it alright otherwise. Nice open feeling from the high ceilings, brewing equipment is off to the right as you walk in. Big open feeling due to minimal tables, but the seating around the copper topped bar was more than adequate on a slow Thursday afternoon. Flight here is 8 pours of about four ounces for maybe $10. On tap when I came were two berliner weisses (they did a batch and split it half and half doing half the kegs with some peach in them), a mild, red ale, schwarz, ipa, saison, and a kolsch. Nice variety of styles. Bartender here was great. Super friendly, happy to talk about New Brunswick and the beer scene here, as well as the stuff he liked to drink. I was still full from lunch so I didn’t get food here and only checked out the specials on the board. But they looked promising. Seems like every day there is a soup, quesadilla, and pizza of the day. Day I was there featured Asian chicken and vegetable soup, Chorizo, black beans, grilled corn, scallion and pepper jack cheese quesadilla, and a pizza with portabello, roasted red peppers, goat cheese, mozzarella, and pesto. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Drake (392) Ivy, Virginia | September 6, 2012 Located in downtown New Brunswick near Rutgers. I feared parking would be an issue but there is a garage about half a block away on Church St. Not what I was expecting based on the name. Very dark lighting and very dark woods. The staff was competent but disinterested. Probably overworked. The beer sampler was $12 for 7 four ounce pours. It sounded like more pours would still be $12 if they had more on tap, which seems like a pretty lame practice. 6 of the 7 beers were solid, and 1 was pretty horrible. I’d call that a moderate success. The food was pretty tasty (chicken wrap). I’d go back if I were a local, but during the day so I didn’t have to use my phone backlight to get an idea of what color the beers are. | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 7/20 hbmason (24) Shoreline, Washington | April 6, 2012 Nice selection with 5 or 6 taps. Decent food. Nice if your in the area, but don’t go too far out of your way. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 closey22 (1) Mt. Laurel, New Jersey | March 21, 2012 Beer very good! food nice 4 da price | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Newk (32) , | February 24, 2012 Harvest Moon has been a staple in New Brunswick for a good while. It had been a long time since I had left Rutgers until the other day.
Harvest Moon hasn’t changed all too much and the set up is still exactly the same as when I had been here years ago. It’s a real good atmosphere that belies it’s being in a college town. It’s a very laid back atmosphere with a nice bar area.
The quality of the brews is still pretty good. They aren’t amazing, but on the whole pretty good. The service was usually on point and it was never too much of a problem to get a beer or some food.
The selection is mostly focused on their brews as would be expected. They aren’t that deep in other brews but have a good amount of whiskey and some wine selections as well.
The food is also very solid. The fries were on the smaller side, but the wrap that I got was very good.
Harvest Moon was enjoyable to stop in and remember all the times I had come here when I was in college. It is certainly different from a lot of other rutgers bars, which is not a bad thing at all | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 joebudzjoe (43) Connecticut | January 8, 2012 I stopped by for a few pints and pizza before a Rutgers/UConn game and I recommend this place. It’s a clean, kinda tightly snugged saloon themed place that is set up in an L shape. On a Saturday at 7 PM, there were 4 bartenders on duty who were quick to refill pints with little waiting time. Their beers are OK, nothing to search for, but not bad for a smallish city in NJ. Their bar fare is also OK, nothing mouth watering, but tasty and fairly priced. On a Saturday night, pints were $5, which is comparable for a place like New Brunswick. While this place doesn’t blow anything out of the water, it will certainly be my pre-RAC watering hole whenever I visit Rutgers. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 emtrexx (11) Wyckoff, New Jersey | September 26, 2011 It was sort of out of the way when I lived in NB, especially since I lived near all the other college bars at the time, but this place had a special something. The beers are quite good and it was definitely a chill destination. I wish I went stopped by here more often to really get familiarized with all their beers. |
