68 A better spoons pub than the Bankers in Leeds. I like that it's named after a famous Yorkshire cricketer. Free WiFi and a decent range of craft beer |
58 A large JDW with a main room and a balcony located in a former church building from 1887 between the University Campus and the town centre. Inviting entrance with colourful flowers and outdoor seating. Two sets of hand-pumps displaying ten cask ales, some of them from regional breweries. Polite service. 66 2015-09-26. We came for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. Breakfast was fine, not amazing but a bargain as is typical of the chain. Servers were friendly. I chatted with them a bit about the ITA v Canada rugby world cup match we were attending later that day. One guy tried to jump into the conversation by proclaiming that Wayne Gretzky was the greatest hockey player ever, which was amusing but mildly confusing in my pre-caffeine state. The pub itself is nice, with big window’s looking out onto the road. The gaming machines spoil an otherwise sort of classy feel to the decor. Relatively quiet at the time we visited. It was mostly a breakfast/brunch crowd but it was obviously packed full of partiers when we walked past on Saturday night. Enjoyable, with a few decent options on cask but there are much better beer geek options in town if you aren’t looking for cheap eats.

68 Marketed as a Lloyds Bar pub in the chain but it feels like a regular well furnished bar from Wetherspoon. It’s on two levels within one central room with the main bar below, it’s on this one that you’ll find two rows of ale pumps with a good selection. The decor is dark but atmospheric, and during the daytime there’s usually ample space for all. |
