74 It's been almost a decade since I visited a Hopcat--last time was in Grand Rapids I think, early in my RB career. Visited this one in the afternoon, it was pretty empty when I arrived. Great menu full of local Indiana beers. Tried two flights as I had to get to the hotel. Mostly good stuff on tap, and the server had some good recommendations. I tried the chicken melt by accident--I didn't read the description closely enough and I hate chicken salad. Otherwise, nice sunny open place in the day time. |
84 Top notch bar in Broad Ripple. Huge selection of beers, large section of local beers, plus numerous listings by style. I ended up getting a bunch of the super decadent Prairie Bomb! series. One of the previous reviews is inaccurate - there definitely are TVs. A fairly loud/crowded atmosphere with music. You really can't go wrong here based on beer offerings. |
58 Decent Hocpat with lots of local ticks. However, since the local ticks aren't great, not really a need for Hopcat. Food was fine, service was too slow. |
84 HopCat is at the end of the Broad Ripple strip in Indianapolis, occupying a large space on the corner at College Ave. You can't miss it. I can't believe this is the first one I've been to, either. There are 100+ taps, with a local 30 at any time, although the actual number of locals is higher. They do "flights" of three at a time. Good variety, fair prices. The bartender was really knowledgeable, although it looked like the employees ran the gamut from guys like him to college students who didn't know anything. The food is good, definitely above average pub grub. Overall, it's a great spot to try a lot of new things. It's a bit loud and crowded and chaotic for the kind of place that would be my go-to local haunt if I lived nearby, but it's certainly got something for everyone. |

82 Lunch time at the hopcat. 10 drafts, 26 bottles. $10+ burges, a tad expensive. Meal prices above average. Ambiance is nice, not a sports bar IE, no tvs. Very attentive waiter. About 15 people here for lunch on a Sat. Down style clothing. Nice overall with a great selection of craft beers. |
92 Large beer bar with food. Usually have at least 30 locals and over 100 taps. |
82 This is a big place with a real chain feel to it. Pretty quiet on a Friday at lunchtime, so much lesser atmosphere than the only other Hop Cat I’ve been to in Grand Rapids. But the selection of draft was huge, and with two ounces samples for a buck we made quite a dent in the menu. Friendly, efficient staff. Filling pub grub - the garbage plate was tasty. Well worth lingering for a couple of hours. |
88 I really dig this place. Big bar with 130 selections on tap. Tonnes of great local stuff. And everything else they bring in is of great quality. Great pricing and good bar food. Bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome! |
72 A big pub with a nice ambiance, but their selection is much more predictable than the Grand Rapids location. The food is good, but the service is pretty unattentive. It’s a bit pricey for beer, especially considering the somewhat boring and predictable lineup. Good, not great, and definitely not on par with the Grand Rapids location. |
