82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Kinz (56) Glen Allen, Virginia | February 2, 2013 Stopped in here sort of randomly when LAB was closed the day we tried to visit that. Had originally intended to just get some beers. I had the sampler of Green Man beers, and they also had a nice selection of mostly other North Carolina micros going. One cask as well. Decided to give the food a try after glancing at the menu and seeing that it didn’t look like the typical pub fare. Nice Scottish egg. But the rabbit ragout was absolutely incredible - priced at $14, it would have sold for double that in a more "upscale" place. Friendly prompt service, we ate at the bar. Small band doing primarily acoustic bluegrass was actually pleasant rather than annoying. Really liked this place. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 jbruner (56) Tallahassee, Florida | January 30, 2013 Feels like an old school English pub with lots of wood and low lighting. Service was a little overbearing, came to my table every 2 minutes asking if we were ordering food and it became frustrating. Beers selection was decent, dominated by Green Man, but a lot of other good local stuff. Food was the highlight, I got the bison nachos and was more than satisfied. Price was average, although beer prices aren’t listed on the menu or board, so that’s strange. Pretty decent overall, worth a stop, but I don’t think I will seek this place out again next time I’m in town. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Westmeister (53) Atlanta, Georgia | October 15, 2012 The bar had a nice feel and was always crowded when I went of walked by. The tap list was not impressive, but still had some high quality brews. Nothing bad to say, just not in the same league beer wise as Monk or Barley’s | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | July 14, 2012 Pitch black, dark wood, made for a cave-like experience. Great live band on a Saturday night. And a first for Asheville - air conditioning! Woo hoo! Solid beer selection, but the same Green Man selection that we found at Green Man. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 changeup45 (100) Mount Dora, Florida | July 14, 2012 This place is located in downtown Asheville. I have to be honest, we walked down this street because of the Thirsty Monk but ended up spending more time here. It’s fairly spacious inside with the bar in the middle and tables/chairs off to the side and in the back. There’s certainly enough space to fit a large crowd and it was very busy when we visited. They had a band playing, which was pretty good. The service was fine, you know, they were busy and quickly moving through the tables. We didn’t eat meals but had a cheese platter appetizer, which was interesting. They had a handful of their own beers on tap and some decent guest taps too. I had a Foothils Pilot Pale Ale; kind of wish I tried some of the Green Man stuff. If you’re going strictly for the beer then you might want to go to the Thirsty Monk across the street or one of the other nice stops in town. But overall I enjoyed this place. Pretty cool vibe. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 b3shine (179) Cincinnati, Ohio | July 9, 2012 A cool Green Man brewpub in the heart of downtown that had a somewhat limited selection, but had a good cask-conditioned porter (amongst others) on draft and had a food menu, although we didn’t eat. A fun stop. | 54 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | July 9, 2012 I wasn’t feeling this plae at all. A large room with prominent Irish beeranaila, they had a celtic "jam" session that you could barlely hear on the other end of th restaurant. They had 10-12 taps of standard local brews and a couple of national crafts and Guinness as well. I only had the barbecue chips but they were awful. They don’t have any tv’s so it’s a nice place, in theory, to chill with a beer but as a beer destination it’s a complete loss. | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 2/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 8/20 magsinva (125) Virginia | July 8, 2012 Well the water was cold and the AC worked mostly, so it’s got that going for it. I’m hoping I’m not going to end up with food poisoning from the scotch egg. Ill keep you posted. The barbecue chips were pretty nasty too. The place is covered in Guinness signage and they had a live Celtic band playing jigs which added to the atmosphere. The server kept forgetting about our table. The beer choices were OK and the flagship Green Man brews were the typical color spectrum you would expect. I got the feeling that this place used to be awesome, but it has deffinately gone down hill since Green Man split to do their own thing. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Hussey (21) North Carolina | March 16, 2012 Killer place! Awesome bison burgers and Green Man brews. Incredible staff/wait folks. Knowledgeable and they take great care of you. Great music. I enjoyed drinking my porter outside the establishment while taking in some afternoon rays. Always my first stop when visiting Asheville. Gets my soul straight for the weirdness that follows . . . | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tmongoose (55) Louisville, Kentucky | January 25, 2012| Updated January 27, 2013 stopped in late on 1/19/12...late enough to hear last call. there was a small jam session going on in the corner stage area. it was dark in there so really didnt see much of the place. green man brews on tap i think 4-5 of them plus several others from the area. the place was quirky with a cool vibe. normally when i get by there they want a cover $5 but not willing to fork it over that night it was free...willing to go back again in the future to check it out in more detail.
1/24/13 updated just to the fact that we ate this time around and the food was pretty good our table had fish and chips, buffalo nachoes and a buffalor burger no complaints from anyone. beer list still decent. filled with local brews. |
