82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 MrChopin (100) Baltimore, Maryland | November 6, 2012 Met 3/4 and Ryan downstairs, awesome relax black and brick vibe, spacious and with amazing wall-lining whisky selection, pointless to drink beer on floor 1. Instead spend $20 with each sip and get peat gut.
Have drank upstairs too, with the plebians, got smashed on $10 Petrus Aged Pales and I fit right in.. loud, obnoxious, pricey, overbearing.
But that’s just my kind of place, allows you to come to get your chill or noise, or both. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 GT2 (344) Riverslime, California | May 28, 2012 One of the newer bars in DC sort of "off" the main 18th St Adam’s Morgan mayhem AKA "the strip." Jack Rose is off the strip enough to avoid the police, fights, and prostitutes. Line can easily go outside and up the block. Don’t be worried. These people are in line for the upstairs bar which is outdoor, very posh, and has a nice blend of about 80% mixed drinks true bar and 20% craft beer. Downstairs you can still order beer though the taps are different between the downstairs and upstairs. The downstairs looks like an old, fancy library. They have one of the largest, if not the largest, collection of Scotch in Bourbon in the US after inheriting a massive collection. When I was there during their opening week, they literally did not know what Scotch and Bourbons they had as the bottles were not yet cataloged. Now they’ve been cataloged. Come for a few beers or come with a big Scotch and Bourbon tasting group and go buck wild on the bottle list. Had Ardbeg Supernova 2009 and PVW20. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 tastybeer (28) Bloomington, Indiana | March 19, 2012 A large bar (with both an upstairs deck and restaurant downstairs) located on the corner of the popular U st. corridor and 18th St. (Adams Morgan). Huge whiskey selection with a respectable draft list (each bar has its own draft list). Not much in the way of bottles. Prices are on the higher side for draft beer, but not absurd. That being said, you can find several hard to find bottles of Scotch that run for $20 or 30 a pour. Bartenders will make pretty much any cocktail you can come up with. I have not tried to the food but the menu looks promising. The bouncers do a good job of keeping the place from getting too crowded on weekends. Highly recommended, especially for drinking on the patio in good weather. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 3fourths (1082) Straßgiech, Germany | February 22, 2012 A superb and world-class whiskey drinking establishment that may have the largest selection of open scotch in the country. One and two ounce pours of nearly anything you could ask for. Draft beers were quality. A fat man with a shoulderbag bumped into me when I arrived. He looked like a Harry Potter character. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | December 29, 2011 This place reminds me of being in the library of a very classy mansion - except instead of books, you are surrounded on all sides by whiskies. They even have a series of library ladders to reach the gems. I foolishly started with a beer, realized my mistake, and switched to Pappy van Winkle followed by Ardberg Alligator. When the server asked me how my beer was and I said "OK," she immediately comped it and offered me another on her, saying, "It shouldn’t be ’OK,’ it should be spectacular!" Now that’s a world view that I can live with. Overall, a great place to come for a single malt, with undoubtedly the best selection in the district, and perhaps in the USA. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 dbarnold (11) Bethesda, Maryland | July 29, 2011 This is a cool place, probably the largest selection of hard alcohol in DC. Scotch particularly. Beer selection is very good as well, 20 or so craft choices and some things I’ve never seen anywhere else. Prices are reasonable, and bar tenders can make anything, and will even if it’s a pain in the ass. | 72 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 16/20 gsmitty80 (163) Washington DC | July 9, 2011 New bar on 18th street that has not had its grand opening yet. More of a scotch and whiskey bar than a beer bar, the beers they have are quality and craft. Check out their twitter feed to see what they have on tap. I will be adding some distribution info as well. The food was also very good, we had a bunch of different things brought out to us for the event i was attending. Keep your eye on this place because it is gonna blow up. |
