70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (1082) Boulder, Colorado | November 19, 2012 Located near the castle entrance just around the corner from Hutt’n and other beer spots, this place has a medium-sized outdoor seating area, a small first-floor bar area, and a larger upstairs dining space. The Kuchlbauer Weisse and Hell are on tap, with the dunkel, weizen bock and Turmweisse available in bottles. The bartenders seemed curt, though that’s typical for Germany, but I suspect they get a lot of tourist visitors, which would explain the cold service. The bartender didn’t seem to know or care much about pouring, shaking the bottle of weizen to make sure every drop of yeast sludge entered the glass, but the beer was still good. I have a fondness for Kuchlbauer, they seem to make quality wheat beer about on the same level as Gutmann. The brewery itself is located closer to Munich than Nuremberg, and I’ve only every found them at a different bar in Regensburg, so it was nice to have another try at their beers. |
